Trust me, it's no advantage- i have friends who have parents who are teachers and are no better off.

agreed. And remember, being a teacher does not necessarily imply a good teacher.

Most people dont listen to their parents anyway, no matter how smart their parents are.

My parents... lol... let's jst say I never got much help from them.
Their professions are not even remotely connected 2 the subjects I did 4 my VCE.

I envied 1 of my classmates a lot bcoz she got all this help @ home from her father, who seemed 2 b an absolute maths genius.
Turns out she wasn't all that fond of maths... she's doing journalism @ UoM now, I believe :)

In the year above me was 1 of the maths teacher's daughters.
She was smart (dux of her year), but I don't think any1 appreciated her intelligence.
It was like... she was jst expected 2 b smart coz her mum was the teacher.
Ppl tend 2 4get that knowledge can't exactly b transferred genetically - she still went thru all the hard work we did 2 learn these things!
It's like everything - no matter how good ur tutor is, wot sort of skool u g2, wot study guides u have - u still have 2 put in some effort come crunch time.

Statistically speaking, parents with a higher-then-average IQ are more likely to have children with lower-then-average IQ.  Same works the other way too.

Genetics isn't as simple as VCE makes it out to be. Multifactorial inheritance is quite complicated and it's not as straight forward has just having a high IQ allele being passed on. The environment would also play a part too...

EDIT: Still, where's your source for this dcc? A quick googling didn't find anything that supported this =\

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure in Freakonomics it referred to evidence that children with parents who have higher IQs tend to have high IQs themselves, NOT that a high IQ will guarantee VCE success.

Einstein was as big a dud as you could get when he was young, around 8-10, he became smartest person. So I think, its possible at any age to improve your iq, all that matters is if your willing to learn

he did badly in SCHOOL but that's because he found it boring. How you do in school and your IQ are quite different. You can learn a lot and know everything but have a low IQ, or you can have a high IQ and get a below 50 ENTER score (i know someone who did this)
