Optometry
« on: January 22, 2009, 12:40:56 pm »
Ok so i received an offer for Optometry at UoM (im still in a state of shock  :o) however, now im second guessing whether this course is really right for me. Yes i know... doubts are creeping up at the wrong time! Physics has never been my favourite subject (i have to thank electric circuits for that!). Funny enough, i feel kind of bummed that i will be missing out on melb's breadth subjects. Alternative B would be applying for an Irregular offer for BSci at Uom and major in Immunology.

Are there any current/past optom students who would like to share their experiences (the good & the bad).

*** What are the pros and cons of a Bachelor of Optometry? ***

Opinion from others will be appreciated too  :)

I say go for Optometry - then transfer if it doesn't work for you

If i transfer after a year of Optom, would i have to redo first year of sci or biomed (i.e start from scratch) ?

I think you should stick to Optometry. You did such a great job of getting an offer in the first place, and should try it out before you totally ditch it.

maybe do optometry for 2 weeks or a semester then change to science if you don't like it.

One other thing to keep in mind that this is the last year for undergrad optometry. This means that, if a direct transfer into 2nd year science doesnt work, you can just repeat 1st year; whereas you can't do the reverse, i.e. start with science and then repeat 1st year optometry.

Although you've already decided on optometry anyway.
