Hmm, only problem is that the Intel Q9400 is LGA775, won't really be upgradeable. Likely no new CPU's will be released for the socket as the i7 is out and i5 is coming.  If you want to future proof...get something else, either a i7 (a bit more expensive though) or AM3 (or AM2+ for cheaper mobo and ram while still being able to upgrade cpu to newer AM3 if needed in a few years. 720BE is best value CPU atm. 720BE is $190, mobo varies if you get AM2+ or AM3. Cash saved can be put to a GTX275 :p).

Yeah...I think I'm suggesting AMD...please put down the torches.
Hmm...next year already. Well better set my goals and all...(raw)

^ I'd recommend the above, except for the omission that with AMD, you really do get what you pay for. :P

Core i7 is a good move, if you can spare a few more hundred quid as you'd need the processor, dearer mobo and DDR3 RAM.

Why do you need quad core though? You can get an equivalent dual core and put the rest of the money into something else. Most people won't use all four cores.

most of the games that will come in the future will optimize quad core, games like crysis already optimize quadcore

Whats so bad about the 720BE, these things are awesome multipurpose CPU's for the price.

Also...I thought the latest GTA game was the only one that has actually utilised quad core.

When I bought my quad core around 2 years ago, I was buying with the exact same pretense. Hasn't happened yet. Probably won't be for a while either.
