MGMT20001 - Organisational Behaviour Passed 2013, Semester 1, Parkville, On Campus, Semester 1 Mark: 72 Grade: Second Class Hons B (H2B)Did you get that result today or did you just check it today? And congrats :)

looking forward to seeing the plethora of H1s from AN
Did you get that result today or did you just check it today? And congrats :)I saw it yesterday but only posted it today. Exam was in the 1st week.
Is having a high GPA important for commerce students? Or should you just focus on the subjects that are important? It's important for getting your foot into a grad job, but you don't need 80+ scores unless you're aiming for investment banking, management consulting i.e. top tier positions. If you're just going for accounting grad job at Deliotte for example then from what I can gather a 70+ is sufficient. From there it's moreso about your personality, skills and experience. Grades are mainly used to cull ppl in the application process. But if you want to do research or honours then you'll need 80+ scores for sure.
tbh I'm more concerned about these semester 1 results than I was about year 12If you studied like you did in year 12 I reckon you'll be fine!! I don't think I've ever worked as hard as I did in year 12 in uni LOL maybe doing a couple of all nighters but that doesn't really count, I haven't done intensive and consistent study since then.
fingers crossed, looking forward to seeing the plethora of H1s from AN
did anyone else read this and was like "yup not me" ?Yep always :'(
I dont have my results yet?
is this normal
Omg me too then I could play a suitable anthem to prepare myself before entering the study plan, music for every moment.
A bit annoying that subjects no longer disappear off the portal. I'm guessing there are going to be quite a few people that don't bother checking because they are used to that trick. For anyone who has received results, is there any sign at all that the result has come out? Does the section that says something like
BH-COM Bachelor of Commerce (Degree with Honours)
Course status: Admitted
Total completed: 0.00 points
Fee type: Commonwealth Supported Place
update the number of points completed when a result came out? I sorta liked the suspense of realising you had a result, then having to go and check it. You could prepare yourself.
golden how did u no
Not at all, I love the band SNES.
How do you tell if you have a quota subject?
When you look up your subject in the handbook it usually says somewhere round the top if it is.

Quick question; when did you guys do your actual exam? Was it week one?
I just want to estimate the time between actual completion of exam and publication of results. My 1st exam was on Friday of week 2, so I don't expect results until at least next week....but the suspense is killing me.

Thankfully that's over, first year biology hasn't been very interesting so far.
are the results we see under the exams and results tab just our exam results or our overall subject score?
There is no specific time
Stop hogging the results everyone from Biomed first year -.-
All these results that say "Passed". So much of an understatement...

Basically, you can get on the Dean's List (and get a certificate in the mail) if you're in the top 3% of your cohort. So, get your 85~+ average and you'll be set.
Has the biomed one from last year been released yet?
The average must be a fair bit higher than ~85 for biomed right? Know some people with about 90 that didn't make it then. Hmm.
Yeah, ceremony is in August.

Hold on Simpak, didn't you say you thought you wouldn't do as well in your subjects this year?!!?! (I apologise if I am making this up)
I can't even imagine what score you'd get if you thought you ever did well in a subject!!!
Inseparable :)
Although I have a feeling you will be taking out bacteriology simpak.
I'm not feeling too confident with that one.
As for M2M..., I will be thankful if it is a H1. The exam was a disaster!
100.
Nah I aim to get 95+ and I'm relatively happy with anything 95 and above.
Anyway that was referring to my OTHER subjects ;) ;) ;) you'll see.
Sooo happy but OMG the rest will be no where near as good!
I haven't either yet El :(
When do you think anatomy and biochem will come out?
I predict this friday (provided they aren't cruel)
Your marks are seriously so amazing!! (Along with everyone else here!!)
If I ever got above 95 in a subject, I'd probably pass out!!

2013 Semester 1 MAST10008 Accelerated Mathematics 1 77 H2A Second Class Hons
yay cramming 9 weeks of lectures saved me. Like 4 lectures a week is way too many. Went to tutes because I thought we had to until I realised in the last tute attendance wasn't even graded. :I
Come at me Calc 2. ;) :P
Yep going to do Calc 2 in sem 2. Accelerated maths is good and all but I rather chill.I'm not sure about this but isn't the hard part of accelerated maths over? Isn't AM 2 just calc 2 + some real analysis?
only speed watched them to fill in the stupid blank spaces they leave :I
When you say speed watch do you mean that you skip parts of the lecture or fast-forward it?
If it's the latter how do you do that?
When you say speed watch do you mean that you skip parts of the lecture or fast-forward it?

You can download lectures off echo?
Yeah you can before you go into the actual player. So in the list you click on the one you want, and it's kinda small text where it shows your selection on the right, and if I were a nice person I'd probably screen cap it and show you but I have to go out in a sec I'M SORRY.
heeeerrreeee
Is it possible that our pre-released marks will change on the 12th, and if yes how likely?
AM2 is much harder. The lecturer isn't half as good (in my opinion) and the content itself is much harder to grasp. Students on average usually find it a fair bit more difficult.no one will ever be as hilarious as paul!
Sometimes I don't know what's more impressive: a really good mark or a straight 50 haha

So melbourne uni, anytime you'd like to release at least 1 of my results, I'd be greatly appreciative >:(
I am going to have to sweat it out for the last one!
And congratulations to everyone. There are so many amazing scores on here. :)
I have no idea either whether arts subjects are scaled or not although tutors have told us several times that scores of 90+ are extremely rare and are reserved for highly innovative, original and creative work (basically coming up with ideas that no one has ever thought of before). That might be different for different arts subjects but I'd say that it's true of the ones that I've taken.

I cannot believe it, im so happy ;D
I know! I seriously skipped two questions worth like 5 marks each.. :l
and practically guessed 1/2 of the dna multichoice
I think proteins and metabolism saved me..
I skipped the ATCase question, and I got 47% on the mid semester.

Sorry jinny1! If you asked me an hour ago I would have been with ya on that!
Have the chemistry department started releasing results? Waiting anxiously for my chem result.
Yes, this is second year chemistry.
Don't know why ours was released earlier than the first years in science/ biomed who had probably sat their exams earlier than us :l
Smaller cohort I guess.
is creative writing marked on a bell curve too? and languages?
I've heard it's all arts subjects :l
Does that mean that those subjects get scaled?

66 for Chem (wow, was expecting a 90 before the exam and still mid 70s after the exam, but then again I did miss a section worth ~15% of the subject cos it was 1/6th of the 80% exam so this could have been much more respectable)
and 77 for Russian 3 which landed me a study trip over there from September to April! So that's the saving grace I guess - this semester still went well all things considered!
I really am beginning to question 80% exams, that was so bullshit. I could have gotten much higher and at least semi respectable if I didn't make a mistake worth 30 minutes of exam time. Sure, it's a big cop out, and you should lose a lot of marks for a one time mistake like that, but it shouldn't be the difference between a H1 and a H3. Somewhat annoyed at myself for being an idiot and forgetting to do a section, and also annoyed at the fact that 80% exams can do this to you in a subject.
Sigh.
Simpak you have got to be kidding me.
Simpak you have got to be kidding me.People are allowed to be upset/disappointed if they don't reach their personal goals. It doesn't mean they're unhappy with the marks.
I'm annoyed because I seriously don't think I lost enough marks to reduce to a 97 (I got 100 on the midsem and obviously 100 on all of those silly CALs) so everyone ignore me while I go sit in the corner and mope and I repeat again for the thousandth time my disclaimer: I do not apply my own ridiculous standards to any of you.
People are allowed to be upset/disappointed if they don't reach their personal goals. It doesn't mean they're unhappy with the marks.

Apologies for coming off as rude. I'm just really pissed off with this semester after putting in endless hours when it doesn't seem to pay off.

It seems that your decision to do Finance 1 this semester has improved your powers of perception :)Perhaps :P
the amount of people getting 90s and even 100s in like a cohort is probable at most 5? i think these people like to come to this forum alot.
OR there are obviously some trollers here. getting a 100 is insane, i would like to see how the lecturer reacts when he sees someone getting this mark. And to the people getting 90s and 100s, im going to pay attention to the names on the dean's list to see who you are.
But im not ruling out the probability that there are geniuses in melb uni, chance is its not high that they frequent this forum alot like these trolls do.
Because most us who post our results are ones proud of them :) I doubt anyone who does bad would be very vocal.

Anddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd that's it! I'm graduating! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
too bad theres no hat. :C
Got a 74 and an 82. Feels good but bad at the same time. 1 more mark, 1 more correct answer and that would've jumped up a grade :(.o.O I got the exact same marks for the two subjects of mine that have been released...

Exactly the same! Totally messed the exam >_<
Out of nowhere I wake up thinking 'INFUNDIBULUM', just out of NOWHERE
I 100% bet all my life savings (69 cents) that you will get h2a at least. But yeah, that is all you can do, it sucks that physics is the worst but it definitely is scaled a lot so hope for the best \o/

Where can you see your GPA, and is it even important in engineering?
^^ Luckily for you, I would say that:
Maths for biomedicine is harder than statistics in terms of scoring.
Genes and Environment is easier to score well in the practicals etc. but harder to score well in the exam. (Overall my mark was higher for Genes and Environment).
You're used to the breadth system now, so it should be better.
Then there's physics. I totally feel for you.
howwwww???
Nup. As previously stated, anticipated 2020.
Has anyone's results from the last week of exams come out yet?Yes my stats exam was on 26th and I got my result yesterday but I'm guessing that there's only about 200 people doing it?
Which subject is worse: Stats or Physics for Biomed? Totally looking forward to next semester.
Which subject is worse: Stats or Physics for Biomed? Totally looking forward to next semester.
Statistics is harder to conceptualise I would say and make sense of what is actually going on, what to use when, and also having to know how to use the computer programs. The subject made me feel so insignificant, I had no idea what was going on for the whole semester. But it is easier to score well on because of the scaling. If you're good with the distributions we covered in methods, you'd be alright here. But if not, you need to work for it. I've attached two pages of the exam summary sheet below - if you want the whole thing just go through some past papers. It's either you get it or you don't.
More off topic:
We had Davide Ferrari for statistics, he was a very funny guy (who would talk about his travels from Italy and how people in airports would stop him to ask whether he had a Ferrari). Again, one of those lecturers who was very transparent and would update students on a regular basis.

ahaha it wasn't actually me going "oh i'm gonna take this subject because it sounds easy" though
i actually *do* love to draw;;; that three hour workshop every week was pretty much just a block where i got to relax/do something i enjoyed. :) which makes getting a respectable mark even nicer, because i would have taken it regardless of what i thought i'd score.
It's not that weird like they would have just pressed 8 instead of 9 when they were entering it in!
Yay well done stonecold ;)
I really enjoy drawing too!! Too bad that subject isn't offered in sem 2 :( and jap 1 isnt either :( ughhh so annoying how not all subjects are offered during both semesters. Is Nature Morte: 21st Century Perspective similar?

If its not too much trouble could you write a review about the bacteriology subject you did? Would be really interested to read it :)
Seeing as simpak did immuno, I will do bacteriology. :)thanks! I appreciate it :)
If there hasn't been a review for a subject you've done this semester, could you have a crack at doing one? It'll help ATARNotes UniMelb forum and other UoMers choose new subjects.I think multiple reviews on the same unit would be a positive though wouldn't it? You get more than one perspective and it will show up any personal bias if present.
No point having another "Chemistry for Biomedicine" Review -_-

Just got my second Intercultural Communication assignment back. Little bit disappointed how even when my tutor said that it was really good and made hardly any negative comments throughout the paper, she gave me only one more mark more than my previous assignment, which had a lot more constructive criticism.
Oh well. El2012, I am echoing your feels from last year.
/endrant
just...lol. congrats! :p as if a loss of 2 marks in the exam translates to a loss of 3 marks overall...
I didn't really pay much attention to the weekly assignments and the prac work; got 95% average ish in those.

Speaking from my own experiences as a former BA student, Arts breadths are not the best choice if you're looking for a WAM boost.Doesn't that mean we're somewhat disadvantaged when it comes to achieving the grades necessary for post-grad study, etc?
In most Arts subjects, you need to write at or above the level expected of a PhD student if you want any hope of scoring 100. That means your essays must demonstrate independent and creative thought, rather than simply agree with the literature. Even if you show some capacity for creative thinking, that should be enough to get you to 85-90 - assuming that your clarity of expression and referencing are flawless, that is.
Very frustrating but that is how it is at nearly all universities.
EVERYONE I KNOW (INCLUDING MYSELF) DID BADLY IN CALCULUS 1 TONYCHET IT'S NOT A BAD SCORE
Seriously, I wonder why they didn't scale marks up at all given the enormous number of P and F-boundary students.
It seems a bit mean to blame the students when the exam was so awfully cruel in comparison to all the set questions/lecture note examples/everything we were provided with. :')
2013 Semester 1 ACCT10001 Accounting Reports and Analysis 88 H1 First Class Honours
2013 Semester 1 ECON10004 Introductory Microeconomics 89 P First Class Honours
2013 Semester 1 ECON10005 Quantitative Methods 1 85 P First Class Honours
2013 Semester 1 FNCE10001 Finance 1 96 First Class Honours
Pretty happy with the H1 average. Hopefully I can keep it up. Finance was definitely my favourite subject and it showed.
P == First Class Honours? Probs a typo I reckon. Regardless, congratulations!
