John Monash SS

I was wondering if anyone have heard of the John Monash Science School before.

Like MHS, MacRob, Nossal, Suzanne Cory and VCASS, it's a selective-entry school which specialises in Science (as the name suggests). Its campus is in Monash Uni, Clayton. (Similar to Nossal in Monash Uni, Berwick)

It's first batch of graduating VCE students would be 2012, if I'm not wrong.

Many people from my math class in school are applying/have applied for it. Personally, I wouldn't really want to go to a specialising school (I would have gone of to VCASS then :P) but now I would do anything to leave my school since they give me lots of troubles with my VCE subjects selection and vice versa.
Initially, I wouldn't want to go to a new school as well, and be their first graduating because you don't know what kind of student, environment, teachers are in stall for you. Secondly, they don't offer music subjects too.

What are your opinions? :)

My friends tried out for it. Its in Clayton- too far away. Although JMSS is gradually becoming a technology based school.. I'd still prefer to go to somewhere more prestigious/well known (MHS).

Yes, the first batch will be in 2012. My friend currently attends there. The emblem for the school = LOL. Its like an atom.

Applying for it? Lol, buddy.. The examination was like 1-2 weeks ago.
The people that go there want to learn, its a nice environment- very technology based learning (Tablet PC's/Allowed to use phones etc to record lectures/lessons etc.) My friend uses his phone to take photos of notes on the whiteboard and stuff.

Quite hard to get into for 2011/Year 11.

I like their uniform, it looks pro. And their laptop bags.

MHS and Macrob are still better though :D

(extreme bias)

It's not too selective, because the majority of year 10 entry applicants are successful. If you're in a decent school (which you are, cherylim), I really wouldn't recommend moving as it's not an established school yet - they don't have LOTE programs, notable music or other things. Just because it's "selective" doesn't mean it's brilliant. That said, it might be stunning in 10 years time once it's developed itself, but I wouldn't be shifting there now.

In 3-5 years time.. It will be up there with MHS and MacRob. Still, i'd prefer MHS any day.

All of their LOTE is by distance education. I think it'll take more than 3 years to establish a school, and I think the fact that it starts in year 10 might mean that it won't attract as many top students as Mac.Rob/MHS. In any case, I'd prefer a well rounded school which excels in a variety of areas - Mac.Rob does well enough in science competitions by any Victorian standard.

MacRob is full of genius, MHS too. Still, it won't be prestigious :D Yes, it matters (to me)

You really have to understand.. Almost anyone can get a 99.95.. Its not really based on the school, its mostly based on the person.
If people like us weren't determined to do well, even if we went to a great school (Scotch,MHS etc) then we won't necessarily do better than if we went to a public school or something.
I'd prefer to do good at a decent school than to do average at a good one.

Nah, my school has issues with my VCE program. That's all.
(As for my school's reputation, I have had enough of those rants. Enough said.)

But how do you know that John Monash won't give you problems as well? D:

^ Yeah, my friends are having problems with their subject selection things too.. ==''
Moving away from the problem isn't always best.. Its too late anyway, unless you go back in time and do the exam.

How so...? It's a specialised science school...

On a random note, I bet few years down the road, they'll have a specialised sports school hahaha

Ha! Mulan literally hit the nail on the head. They really are trying to make it in a more university set out.. They have lectures and all that stuff.. Trust me, a normal high school with friends = best. Without my friends.. I'd hate school.

Similarities:
-both have no uniform
-both situated right next to a university
-both have to do some sort of exam to get in

and yea i agree that it wouldnt be that hard to get into John Monash. :)
