Week-0 plans 2009

Checked the mail today and got my physical copy of the orientation program. Even though it says you can’t access them until next Monday, I was able to get my host program details. You can access them here. “We’ve also enclosed the Uni Starters Guide from the Student Union.” Did people get their copy? I didn’t. I think I might need it since all the program has under ‘social and fun events’ are the clubs and societies expo and the bush dance (which sounds awesome, btw).

So what are you guys planning to do for o week? I’ll be doing the compulsory ones, obviously, the free lunch (free! ^^) and the sessions for my subjects (they don’t have all of mine, but I’ll be going to the accounting, introductory microeconomics and the management & marketing ones). All up, I should be able to fit it into the first three days, though Getting to know Australians sounds pretty interesting. I found some other events at the CSS site, but most of their things seem to involve large amounts of drinking (and calling people bitches), so it’s probably not for me. Going by last years pics, I’d probably have to be on a lot of drugs to have a good time at that camp.

Also, I logged in to that LMS thingy, and apparently I’m a part of something called M-ASS. How did that happen?

I'm not going on the host thing. But I'll attend my course one and the Biology and Psychology one. Unfortunately they're one after another and on completely different areas so I'll have to either run or learn how to teleport in the very few days I have left.

What's wrong with sausages in bread? I've also never had a beer (The most I've drunk is during communion :(). I'm gonna go to my faculty's BBQ to get some beer, too. It might taste better cos it's free. I know most people were being facetious in the other thread, but a VN UoM meet-up sometime during o-week would be cool.

I can't seem to get my host group details. It keeps saying that either my username or password is invalid but I'm using the same details I use to log onto the student portal?

Don't worry, it's doing that to me too.

Cheap-o BBQs are the best kind. At the AAD the ketchup lid fell off as I was tipping some onto my hotdog and literally coated my it. But it was still awesome.

lol.. I wished they would give out those hot dog rolls haha

Do we need to find the host group from the website? For every faculty, theres only one host group and you have to meet at the specific coloured balloons...

I'd say only the people doing Commerce can access their host details.

It used to say that for me. Maybe you'll have to wait, though in the letter it says that you're allocated to one after enrolment.

Here's what it looks like after you log in (my details omitted, of course).

edmund, I'm pretty sure that there's more than one group for each faculty. There's only meant to be around 10 students in each group. I doubt you're 1000+ science students are gonna fit in one group. ;D

OMG that would be an awesome group. We could take over the uni.

My host leader person sent me an email with all our groups details(although i suspect it was just a premade email with names changed...)

Haha like you guys have never tased beer! But yeah I plan to do all the compulsary stuff and as many of my subjects as I can, but I haven't yet read through the program properly.

but most of their things seem to involve large amounts of drinking (and calling people bitches), so it’s probably not for me.

beezy, at least you got something. the last email i have in my inbox just told me that the commerce student centre moved to a new building. also that would be one massive group. I'd hate to see you all try to get into a building at the same time.

revel, you'll have to tell me how it goes. It starts at 2 on thursday, iirc.

awesome.

Ehh it seems like fun if you get afew mates to go with you and just have fun before the study starts, but I understand it's not going to be for everyone.

Also, theres nothing on Monday? For some reason I thought it was monday-wednesday guess I was wrong...

I think they're making monday science camp recovery day. I have no idea why they don't include monday, tbh.
