Year 12 started on Wednesday for me, but everyday when I come home from school I am extremely tired and can't concentrate enough to do any homework.
Does anyone else feel the same or is it just me?
I've tried drinking energy drinks and they work quite well surprisingly. I think I might just stash up a heap of "Monster" drinks for when I get home from school each day...
-
1. Sleep more
2. Exercise TONS
3. Energy drinks are so awful! Don't consume them!
4. Profit
:)
-
drink tea in the morning and in the afternoon :)
-
You'll get used to it in a week or so :) Your holiday routine was probably a lot different to your school-day routine.
-
Yeah, what Rohit said. You're probably just used to being a massive sloth from all that holidaying. :)
Don't succumb to energy drinks! Exercise and healthy eating, despite sounding cliche, actually really help your energy and concentration levels.
Last year I had to travel an hour and a half to get home from school, which could be draining. If you find yourself still tired after school by, say, Week 2, try staying back at the school and studying instead of going home.
I spent three days a week in an empty classroom after school last year, and got so much more work done in that time than at home. In fact, except for during SWOTVAC, I pretty much did no study at home, just stayed back after school.
-
Take a nap if you need, usually helps pretty well
-
Started school today for me man and I'm tired as phuk.
Even though you started school in Wednesday.
I know that feeling man, really tiresome...
-
Try to keep a steady sleeping pattern and use sleepyti.me to know what times to go to bed/wake up (adhering to that website works really well). I find eating some fruit or going for a run helps if I feel a bit lethargic. Maybe even just having a shower to refresh yourself could be beneficial.
Also drink lots of water. Take a drink bottle to every class, make it a game to see how many times you can finish your drink bottle in one day. I think you should drink at least one litre per 25kg of body mass.
Do NOT resort to energy drinks or coffee.
In a worst case scenario I think Berocca isn't too harmful.
-
As said above you just have to re-fix your sleeping patterns, I remember last year I was absolutelty wrecked after the first week of school, since I tried to shift my sleeping pattern by 4 hours in one night. Once you get back into the swing of things, you won't have time to feel tired, the year will fly by. Try to start going to sleep earlier and stick to a certain time.
Have to add that in most of my classes those who actually got a good sleep were the ones who performed better during school (although this could be more to do with how disciplined you are with yourself). And as said by a lot of people above ENERGY DRINKS ARE NOT GOING TO DO YOU ANY GOOD, if anything they are going to have the opposite effect (relative to education/school e.t.c)
So don't worry, you will work back into the routine and you won't feel tired (for now, by the end of the year is a different story, relative to burning out e.t.c) but for now, just try to get back into the pattern.
-
Definitely don't drink energy drinks, those shit are bad for ya man, if you're tired mentally, then go do some exercise and take a break from studying. If you're tired physically, then take a nap.
-
this happened to me alot during year 12, and i just went to sleep, not the best solution though.
i suggest u try increasing ur sleep at night by 1 or 2 hours,
study in manageable blocks (no need to go burn yourself out)
eat healthier immediately
and exercise, i liked to run
i tried coffee, it seldom worked,
i had this tired feeling today too, and atm i've been getting lots of sleep but i eat like 2 meals a day (cereal + dinner + chips or something) so i think the diet part is the key here.
-
What's your diet like?
Eat lots of vegetables and protein throughout the day. I think that helps me a lot, I never feel tired.
-
You just started school, your body has to adjust to your new
unfortunate lifestyle.
2. Exercise TONS
Best bit of advice ever. I did this and it cleared my mind to unprecedented extents. Exercise when you're stressed.

Seconded.
It doesn't have to be a proper sweat-inducing activity. Just a short jog outside in the fresh air really helps. I sometimes did this multiple times in one night if I had a massive study sesh. It really helps the concentration and helps you sleep better later.
-
I just had something to eat when I got home, then went on facebook...etc. and napped for around an hour or two. When I woke up, I'd be feeling awesome :)
-
Damn, yeah I had massive issues with exhaustion during Year 12. In my case, I used to be sleepy at Periods 1 and 2, kinda okay at Period 3, then crash at Period 4 and be exhausted until I go to bed. The only times when I was really able to study were Saturday and Sunday mornings...
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about that too! Overload on weekends, do as much work as you can on Saturday and Sunday and that should free up your weekdays a fair bit :D

that must have been some ridiculously intense study :3
-
Yeah, like those days I was able to do a LOT, especially on English Language...!
-
I reckon it will take time to get used to this (serious). Starting school is really tiresome, just like our previous years, but I'm sure everything will go fine.
Anyone agrees :P?
-
Try all of the above and it should work, but as you get towards the end of the year the tiredness will inevitably come back.
I'm someone who needs my sleep so i tried to go to bed and wake up at a consistent time. Even tho i was able to manage to keep up with that it only took one bad nights sleep to make me a train wreck for the next day which sucked big time.
I'd say it's a good thing that you've picked this up early, now you can find what works and use it when it counts at the end of the year.

+1, Amen.

What time at night do people on here usually stop studying?
-
2 in morning, so i wont be stressing when exams are around the corner
-
I havent started yr 12 yet, so I have no idea what its like, but over the holidays, when I got sick of studying or tired, I would go for a short run, then a cold shower, then I would feel so relaxed and refreshed that I could knock off atleast 4 hours of intense study:)
-
I should really go to sleep and get into a good cycle so that I dont feel tired when I come home from school tommorow
Good night AN'ers :)
-
What time at night do people on here usually stop studying?
Usually ten or so minutes before i went to bed, so 11-ish?

I go to bed at 12, wake up around 7...ish.

While your body and mind adjust to school, naps are a good idea when you get home. But the caveat of that is don't sleep too long - last year I found myself often dropping into bed at about 5 pm or after dinner, then waking up at 11.30 and having no time to do anything. The fact that I'm typing this at 2am should attest to my horrid sleeping pattern. I woke up at 8.30 today and crashed at 5.
-
If you want to get back in a normal sleeping pattern prevent yourself from eating and drinking at least half an hour before bed and just lay in bed, no phone, no tv, no books. I know its boring but often the boredom itself will make me fall asleep after twenty minutes.
Also don't me drinking monster and that. As well as tasting god awful it has so many negative consequences on health. Drink water.
Additionally, try jumping up and down on the spot. I do this for roughly 2 minutes when I'm in the office before work to get me pumped and surprisingly it does affect my ability to work in a positive way. Thank god my workmates already know I'm weird.

Hey guys -
I exercise heaps, get 6-12 hrs sleep on average
and the past few days i've been so drained it's terrible
I am literally so tired, that i'm too tired to even get to sleep, past week has been like i'm not fully awake nor am i fully asleep
sometimes i just laugh as i slip into bed because it doesn't even make sense to me how i can be too tired to sleep
any suggestions?
I generally always listen to my ipod when im sleeping (not that loud, my hearing is awesome) so im gonna stop that from today and see if it changes.
has anyone had this happen? It's sooo bad i can barely do anything because i start sleeping in the bus
and i always have milo cereal first

I cant blame you ... I am laughing just reading this
'Too tired to sleep' is a unique problem mate :)

Between my fatigue (due to lack of sleep) and procrastination, I don't get any work done during the week (I didn't get any work over the weekend either, haha). Also, it's hard to pay attention in class when too when you're eyes water when you look up at the board.

I feel your pain, but nothing a warm shower and nutella toast can't fix. It works wonders for me
