Title: Results Discussion
Post by: Howzat on September 04, 2012, 11:24:26 am
Hey,

I am curious to know when the UMAT results will be released?

Late September, as it says on the website, doesn't help and I would like to prepare myself for when the results do come.

Thank you.

If last year is any indication, I'm guessing around the 19th of September?
I'm totally freaking out at the moment :/

All you can do right now is curse monash for being one of the hardest unis to get into for medicine in Australia and the only one in victoria.

Damn them all...

Try not to stress too much guys, most active members on AN have done really well in recent years, take some confidence in that! :)

Does that mean UMAT has no set release date and you just get the results on a random day?

Well all the say is "late September". Could really be any day after today i guess.

Pretty much, being unexpected is somewhat better imo, no need to stress about a date like ATARs and VTAC offers.
Title: Re: Results

They release results 'when they're done', so yes. They have internal dates to meet but not a public one for final results

Does anyone know where they actually post them? is it just on the UMAT site under "results" or..?

There will be a link on the UMAT homepage and directions on the email they send. I'ts rather straightforward :)

Confirmed you need to go to this site to get your results:
https://umatreg.acer.edu.au/candidates

ACER "don't actually have a set date", the guy said it will definitely be between now (23rd) and late September. He also said they recommend constant checking, but *sounded* like we wouldn't have to wait too much longer. My guess would be tomorrow but who knows.

In my brother's year at school, 2 people who got 99.85 did not get into medicine the first time because of UMAT scores. They are both currently doing medicine or have already finished. The UMAT is not the be-all and end-all of your pursuit to study medicine, so don't be too distressed by a negative result!

No, you still have so much more to do, your whole year 12 isn't even over yet, you have all that to work harder for, what are you talking about?

This sums it up perfectly! There's so many more opportunities even if you get a shit score, you just gotta be persistent!

Dear Acer officials,
Thank you for making such an amazing test.  I know it must be a "huge" task to get all the papers marked, but can you release the result, so that I don't need to have intimate sex with my F5 button?

Thank you.

tbh I would be pretty distressed over spending an extra year or two at uni (that is if you actually get into postgrad.) because of a multiple choice test.

Okay fine I will defer to you on this since I have no experience of attending university (yet) but I would imagine it would still be a very academic life which would be similar to the horrors of secondary school due to studying a lot for the gamsat and maintaining a high-ish GPA in order to be a likely candidate for a spot in postgrad med as opposed to getting straight into undergrad. med and feeling much less pressure after jumping that hurdle.

I believe we are talking about UMAT. This is the UMAT "Discussion Thread"

Unless you haven't realised, I was talking about the bigger picture, that no matter what your UMAT score is, what's done is done, you can't change it, it's set in stone, what you can still change, however, is how well you do on your end of year exams, and don't forget that if you want to get into med, they are just as important as the UMAT, so what I'm trying to say is that the UMAT is not the be all and end all of your life.

Either way, I was making a point which I think is reasonable, why are you so uptight and aggressive?

If you don't get enough %ile in UMAT, you won't get an interview
If you don't get interview, you won't have chances to get into med undergrad
If you don't get into med undergrad and have to do the course you don't want, its truly sh**
Even you can study med postgrad, you still have to suffer 3 years in uni and overcome GAMSAT. Its so sh**
And you don't get into med, you have to do the job which you don't enjoy at all for the rest of your life. Its really sh**

It seems hurt but its the fact!
Having said that, don't worry everyone! If you tried you best, you should be proud. Scores ain't everything!

No, you still have a chance at the second round of interviews (Monash)

On top of that you still might get guaranteed entry into MD at UoM

You might also be offered an interview at another university in Australia

It's nowhere near as bleak as you make it out to be

whilst i agree that this was a bit bleak (personally, im really really glad i didnt go interstate for med, and stuck with biomed), i dont think nisha's was bleak. i think she was just trying to say that when results come out, theres no point worrying or being upset, because whats done is done.

Sydney Uni has an undergrad med ?

they have medical science or science combined with bachelor of med/surgery.
If you get into this course, you don't have to do GAMSAT and just go straight to med/surgery after finishing undergrad course

Sydney Uni has an undergrad med ?

You need like 99.95

You need exactly 99.95

And interview as well
But for international students, its > 99.50 (still very high anyway)

Guys and gals,

A quick guide on umat results and the inevitable "zomg, will I get interview at monash." Anything around 85 (+ or - a few) onwards keep monash med first preference. If you boss atar then you can cop an interview and beat the chumps that think they are sitting pretty with high umats but shit interviews. Cutoff will probably be around 94-95 for first round offers. Ideally for second round you want high 80's to low 90's with good atar  (99+)

I know the anxiety you are feeling, happy to answer any queestions regarding this. Don't be scared to hit me up.

Is it worthwhile putting undergraduate medicine at Monash as part of my preferences (1,2,3 for the three places), considering that I got a percentile <60? I don't want to be a doctor, it's more so guilt by family and I tend to buckle under it, even for the most simplest things. Dentistry seems appealing but it's out of the question because undergrad requires biology. I'm not interested in postgrad, really want that sense of security if you can understand that.

Cheers

If you're not interested in med, there's no real point in having it up there. And in all honesty, with that UMAT there really isn't a chance anyway :(

Leave it there if you like, but all they're doing is clogging up preferences, VTAC will just skip them anyway.

As in:

Quote
The MBBS will offer some additional interviews in January to highly ranked applicants based on UMAT and eligibility for the following:

• Monash Scholarship for Exceptional Achievement (ATAR eligibility 99.95)
• Monash Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement (ATAR eligibility 99.90)
• Monash Scholarship for Excellence (ATAR eligibility 99.00)
• Vice-Chancellor’s Access Monash Scholar’s Program (ATAR 90 or above - interviews offered to highly ranked applicants)."

Although I'm yet to hear a reasonable explanation as to what that 3rd dot-point means.

Honestly it will come down to the interview, but you have a good chance nonetheless, I got an ATAR > 99.00 and a UMAT percentile of 99 and I managed to get into MBBS at Monash, so if you do well on the interview you should be pretty certain of securing a place.

Btw, I should also mention that I DIDN'T get into UNSW, so don't take anything for granted.

It probably won't matter because unless you get 99.95, you won't get an interview with 80th Percentile at Monash.

Honestly though, if you truly don't want to do Medicine from the bottom of your heart, don't, you'll just be wasting your life.

Be careful, it's easier to do badly in an interview than you think, I didn't think I bombed the UNSW Interview (thought I did reasonable, not well, but OK at least) and I didn't get any offers, not even a bonded place.

I disagree, I doubt that the UMAT cut will go down, considering it's been going up for the past few years, but we'll see.

You forget that they don't have proper second round interviews, so there would be more interview places for this round.

68 47(wtf) and 75, 94th percentile. What are my chances of getting a first round interview before you get your atar? Also its not possible for me to get a second round entry unless i put medicine first is it? Because i'm really tossing up between that and actuarial studies

Haha, I was tossing up between the two too!

Look, I think you've got a good chance of a first round offer as the UMAT cut *should* go down :)

What did you end up picking out of curiosity?

I picked Monash med :)

Exactly, most people think it will go down because they'll go back to the 2010 interview style, ~600 interviews compared to the ~450 of last year. Hence a decrease in cut which I hope will be as low as 190 (which is still higher than 2010)

I got 63, 51, 72, --> 91st percentile, but I'm eligible for the Dean's Rural List at Monash. What are my chances?

@yoyopanda, the UMAT cut for UQ last year was 174 and 99 ATAR was needed (including bonus points)

I got 68, 56, 61-->91st percentile too!! I hope this is enough for the Dean's Rural list. Finger crossed for both of us

58, 73, 72 > Percentile rank 98

However, I'm not at all confident with my potential atar score -  most likely a mid 98 to a very low 99.

Assuming my interviews are decent, which universities are 'relatively easier' to get in?

Is Monash out of reach with of 98.5 atar? I have heard they usually accept scores around 99.5, at least 99+.

With a good interview you should be fine for Monash :)
