I got a percentile score of 89. I was very disappointed to be honest because I was hoping to get in Monash. I was wondering though whether they still have second round interviews?

They are having some "scholarship" interviews, but no-one here is quite sure what they will entail.

What do you mean "scholarship" interviews? Is it for scholarship applicants?

As in:

Quote
The MBBS will offer some additional interviews in January to highly ranked applicants based on UMAT and eligibility for the following:

• Monash Scholarship for Exceptional Achievement (ATAR eligibility 99.95)
• Monash Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement (ATAR eligibility 99.90)
• Monash Scholarship for Excellence (ATAR eligibility 99.00)
• Vice-Chancellor’s Access Monash Scholar’s Program (ATAR 90 or above - interviews offered to highly ranked applicants)."

Although I'm yet to hear a reasonable explanation as to what that 3rd dot-point means.

Hey guys,

So say I get an ATAR>99, with a UMAT percentile of 99, what are the chances of getting into Monash Med???

I'm feeling relieved but stressed out at the same time  :-\

If you don't wanna become a doctor, whats the point of putting MBBS?
The angst of familial pressure to say the least.

Is it worthwhile putting undergraduate medicine at Monash as part of my preferences (1,2,3 for the three places), considering that I got a percentile <60? I don't want to be a doctor, it's more so guilt by family and I tend to buckle under it, even for the most simplest things. Dentistry seems appealing but it's out of the question because undergrad requires biology. I'm not interested in postgrad, really want that sense of security if you can understand that.

Cheers

If you're not interested in med, there's no real point in having it up there. And in all honesty, with that UMAT there really isn't a chance anyway :(

Leave it there if you like, but all they're doing is clogging up preferences, VTAC will just skip them anyway.

Thanks heaps pi.

idk, there's no point in leaving it up there, so you might as well to be honest.

Does that mean I should or shouldn't?

Honestly it will come down to the interview, but you have a good chance nonetheless, I got an ATAR > 99.00 and a UMAT percentile of 99 and I managed to get into MBBS at Monash, so if you do well on the interview you should be pretty certain of securing a place.

Btw, I should also mention that I DIDN'T get into UNSW, so don't take anything for granted.

It probably won't matter because unless you get 99.95, you won't get an interview with 80th Percentile at Monash.

Honestly though, if you truly don't want to do Medicine from the bottom of your heart, don't, you'll just be wasting your life.

Well, if you totally bomb the interview then you won't make it.

But stay positive! :)

Be careful, it's easier to do badly in an interview than you think, I didn't think I bombed the UNSW Interview (thought I did reasonable, not well, but OK at least) and I didn't get any offers, not even a bonded place.

Just wondering if SEAS affects the umat requirements for an interview in any way?

Can't help unless you are rural and qualify for the Dean's Rural List
