Bee(a) buzzing through the hsc

Got inspired by all the people who have already posted in this forum and thought it'll be great to join in!!

Stuff about me:

- My name is Bea lol and is pronounced as bay-ya. People pronounce it as bee (the inspiration for the thread's name I guess)

- I currently do Standard English, Mathematics, Society & Culture, Visual Arts, Ancient History and Catholic Studies (but this subject doesn't technically count). If I had to rank my subjects from best to worst, it'll be; Visual Arts, English, SAC, Maths and Ancient.

- Don't really plan on going to Uni. I'm trying to get into film school instead (no atar required) and do a bachelor/diploma in screen production. But I still want a decent ATAR (of at least 85) just in case I don't get in.

- Besides working on past papers, I've been working on my portfolio for film school. I also have an interview with another film school soon, which I'm really excited about!

So far my HSC year has been up and down. Term 1: Super motivated. Term 2: my lowest marks came from this term because I was terrible with time management and was struggling to do two majors at a time. Term 3: Had a study schedule, submitted assessments early. Very organised!. Term 4: Got lazy AFTER trials. I feel like I'm in limbo right now.

Haven't gotten all my marks back for trials but I got 56% for Maths (this was the worst exam i s2g. it was the cssa one), 83.3% average for my Paper two and 96% for art. I'm just hoping my marks for my other exams are decent.

I hope this journal will motivate me during the last moments of my HSC year!!

- Bea

Very keen to read your updates Bea! So what's the criteria for being accepted into the film schools you are applying for? Portfolio and interview, anything further? Any specific schools you have in mind or?  :)

I'm trying to apply for two film schools; Australian Film Television Radio School (AFTRS) and Academy of Film, Theatre and Television (AFTT). AFTRS has a bachelor in screen production (three years) and AFTT has a diploma in screen and media (1 year)

For AFTRS, I need to submit a portfolio which consists of a 1000 word personal statement of my life, a creative piece, a review of a creative piece and a letter of recommendation. The intake for AFTRS is very limited because only 90-95 applicants get in. As for AFTT, I have an interview, that'll happen sometime in September.

If I don't get in, UNSW apparently has a bachelor in screen and sound & a bachelor in media and communication. The atar is 85+ I think.

Cool! Sounds like you've got a few good options, sounds like an intense process!! Interesting that you have to review a Creative piece for AFTRS, I suppose that makes a lot of sense for the degree you are doing  :o Best of luck with it all and fingers crossed you get into the ones you are favouring!!

Had my art exhibition this week, marking the end of my BOW journey. A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders because I’ve spent a long time doing my BOW in the last five months. I should be relieved, but I’m quite sad about it. What do I do now? My two majors are now over.

I remember selecting my subjects back in Year 10 and the teacher who interviewed me said that I couldn’t handle doing two majors at once. Surely I started very late for my PIP (started in early Feb) and BOW (halfway through March), but once I started I couldn’t stop.

I spent countless hours editing my PIP and submitting it to my SAC teacher. I spent countless hours in the art room (during and after school hours) and in my room painting this BOW that I thought would never end. As much as I hated doing my majors at certain times, they were really fun to do because I was able to talk about a topic I was so passionate about and visually express my thoughts in a painting. There was no certain guideline to conform to, giving me this sense of freedom and uniqueness that set me apart from the other girls in my year group.

So to that teacher who said wouldn’t be able to survive two majors, well guess what? I managed perfectly well. I don’t regret this risky decision. This made my HSC year so much better!!  ;D ;D ;D

Really enjoyed that last update Bea, congrats on finishing your two major works!! Sounds like you learned a lot from the experience :)

If you ever were interested in writing up a bit of a guide/recap of your HSC experience with regard to those major works, maybe a bit of a lessons learned/helping hand for anyone else to manage theirs (especially if they have more than one), let me know and we might be able to pop it in the Articles section!! I reckon it would be something really beneficial to a lot of people in years to come ;D

- Got my marks back for Paper One and I’m really happy about them besides my creative. My essay and unseen texts were surprisingly good. Kinda got sad when I didn’t get full marks for text one (painting), because I’m an art student and this question should have been my forte. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. As for my creative, my teacher said it was good but I lost a lot of marks because I didn’t fit it to the stimulus (so many regrets)

- Got my marks back for ancient and I’ve improved so much from my half yearly result. Big shoutout to Susie, who taught at the Ancient lecture I attended and made Ancient a lot easier to learn! (how do i tag susie on this thread? lol)

- Attended the 2017/2018 College Captain speeches this morning and got a bit sad because it just made me realised that I’m graduating in less than a month and that I’m getting old.

- Had to take down my artwork and pack it away for submission this Monday. I took an awfully long time because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to it. I know it sounds pathetic, but this work played an important role in my hsc year.

i genuinely feel like im in a limbo right now. its that awkward stage after trials and before the hsc, where there are no assessments, exams and majors. work is therefore optional (but is technically mandatory if you want to practice answering questions and want a high atar). kinda lost motivation and energy after trials. haven't really done any practice papers (besides maths ones. but even for maths, i don't even end up completing them because i get lazy. i've been doing practice answers for art, but there isn't really point because its my strongest subject and i should focus on my weak subjects instead) because teachers don't set a due date for them.

i really can't use my majors as an excuse for non-completion of past papers and homework anymore. i want to try and see if i can rewrite my essay for my mod b and do a pompeii question by tuesday. i also need to make notes for my new topic for sac. i still need to work on my film portfolio.

let's see how things go...

Take a break it seems like you're worn out for trials. After the break go hard! Read jake's recent article about how to plan the last 50 days for inspiration.

This one ;) I agree with Pikachu, take a break! I didn't start full on study until maybe the second week of September, until then it was just whatever came from school and tidying up notes. You have to properly recharge! ;D

Thanks guys! I definitely needed that reassurance and support. I finished my trials three weeks ago (and my sac major) and thought I would be recharged by now. But then again, I just completed my art major last week so I need a well deserved break from that!

My brain right now is like that distracted boyfriend meme (included in attachments ;) )

I just read Jake's article and found it very useful. I'll probably start fixing my study timetable this or next week and work at my own pace :) But for now, I need to take a break (sidenote: anyone listen to hamilton here? ;) ;D )

keep the memes coming!!!!! love the ones on the thread you created hahahahahah they're great

and it's okay, you do deserve a break. you feel a bit guilty at first, because you could be doing work, but it's so worth it because you feel really rested and more motivated to study (kind of?) you have a lot more energy after your break :-)

Thanks!! I feel soooo guilty for not doing any work ever since my trials ended three weeks ago. Some girls in my classes have started working on past papers and I feel that I am so behind (though they didn't have any majors to work on, so they had more time to have a break I guess). Everyone's different and work at their own paces.

August 28, 2017

Today's the day that the body of work is to be submitted to the board of studies/nesa/whatever they're called now.

- I had to fill out 45 tags that needed our student number, school number, expressive form, title of work and the number of pieces. This took me waayyyyyy too long because I had 45 canvasses that needed a tag each.
- My VAPD was also submitted
- Had to put butcher's paper in between the canvasses (so that the paint didn't rub off), wrap all 45 canvasses in bubble wrap and brown paper. Though I had to get my friend to do it instead because my teacher thought I did a horrendous job wrapping ;D ;D

I decided to document the process through pictures (included in the attachment), just in case people who don't do visual arts were wondering what the submission process looked like.

- kinda proud that i'm nearly done with completing the 2001 hsc paper for maths. like when i answer past papers for maths, i usually get lazy and stop at question 13. don't know where this energy suddenly came from  ;D i've only got two more questions to go before i can move onto the 2002 one.
- got the trial papers back for art and discussed the artworks in class.
- feel so guilty for not doing any work in ancient history. we've literally been learning about houses in pompeii for the last three lessons and it's draining the life out of me. can't we move on to a different syllabus dot point? the class is so BORED. i'll see if i can do something productive in tomorrow's double ancient class. apparently we're getting our papers back.
- my maths tutor wants to see my trial papers, which i refuse to show him because i'm so ashamed of my mark. i feel like that i have disappointed him  :'(

No good tutor will ever be disappointed in your marks, provided you and they know you have given it the best effort you possibly could have given. To move forward and improve you need to acknowledge your shortcomings, and your tutor will be one of your best resources to handle those in the right way! Seriously, show them, you'll be better for it in the long run, it is what they are there for ;D

Awesome work on the Maths paper!! Doing 2001-2016's exams will set you up so well for the HSC, if you can do it ;D

Just realised it's been a week since I started this board  ;)  ;)

double ancient | FINALLY moved onto a new syllabus dot point, the influences of greek and egyptian culture in pompeii and herculaneum. really liked this topic because we've studied greek history before and i really like egyptian history.

i had this conversation with my ancient history teacher earlier.

me: i feel so bad for xerxes because in section three i said that he was a good guy. then in section four, i threw him under the bus.
my teacher: don't worry about xerxes, he's dead!

i had other subjects today but nothing interesting happened. just the usual revision.

Not really an official entry, but look I got a new username!! What do you guys think? I got this nickname back in Year 7 ;D .

Edit: Nearly forgot to mention but I handed in my short story (for my film portfolio) to my English teacher and the Adv/Ext.1 English teacher at my school today. Just want to see how two different English teachers think of my story. (It's also my creative story for Discovery ;) )

september 1, 2017

- got my short story back from BOTH english teachers (it was really quick marking). the adv/ext 1. english teacher said that my writing has improved so much. while my english teacher said that it was too long for the discovery short story. had to tell her it was for my uni portfolio and that i wasn't planning on memorising SIX pages for paper one ;)
- got my trial marks for my society & culture paper and what can i say?? (oh god it was terrible, think my teacher was a bit disappointed). for conformity and non-conformity, apparently i just kept rambling and ranting about the nazis instead of addressing the question :-\ lost my rank as well oops

september 2, 2017

- went to the aftt open day. campus was a lot smaller than i expected. like really small. staff and students were super super nice and enthusiastic. got a lot of free food hahah. learnt about the diploma in screen and media. it's a very practical course. they have workshops that students work on each day, such as scriptwriting, lighting, camera and even a sex & violence workshop! ... all the tutors already work in the australian entertainment industry, which is pretty cool.
- i didn't end up going to the unsw open day, even though it's my backup plan if i don't get into a film school. oops. i kinda feel guilty for not going. wished i went to the AN meet up! but i had to buy my dad a father's day gift instead.
- had to go back to school (from 6pm-10:30pm) for a school/community event. the year below me hired me to take photos for the night. it was really fun taking photos!!

september 3, 2017
besides celebrating father's day of course, i started the "visual arts essay marking " and "visual arts question" threads. pretty excited to mark essays and answer questions for my favourite subject  ;D  ;D

"i hope you live a bloody good life"

- had my year 12 reflection day today
- the host was hilarious and so optimistic. he just kept telling us to have a wonderful life and live life to the fullest.
- bonded with my friends and other people in my year group. we danced, we sang and we connected. i find that really nice because it made me realise that we're graduating in less than two weeks and that we should push our differences aside and connect with each other, even for a brief moment.
- we had an activity where we had to write down a compliment for each person in our group and thought that was nice.

i felt really refreshed afterwards? like i'm ready to write down three essays, paint another major and do five maths past papers. i have this renewed perception of the world and myself. i feel like i'm just regurgitating the discovery rubric we're on earth for a reason and we must enjoy every moment and not stress about the little things in life. you must look at the bigger picture and work towards that, in order to be happy.

i know this entry is completely different from my previous ones, but i thought it was worth mentioning.

i've been putting so much effort and time into my film portfolio that ive been neglecting my hsc studies. in my previous entry, i said i felt so refreshed and that i was determined to write a lot of essays and do past papers. completely jinxed myself today and did nothing (besides some questions from the 2002 hsc maths paper)

i've also been focusing my time on teacher gifts and the end of year 12 video (that i will start editing during the weekend). i probably won't start studying for the hsc until the day after i graduate (which is in 12 days). do you reckon i'm giving myself enough time to study or should i start next week?

time is running out

eh, you've got plenty of time. graduating first, then studying will guarantee you a lot more free time - you can focus on finishing school and your film portfolio instead!

- art: not sure if everyone can bring in their money on time. we have two teachers, so double the money we have to contribute each. everyone's broke too. i also have individual gifts for my teachers. for the first one, i have a painting and a book of quotes (that she's said since year eight). it's probably gonna come this week. as for my gift for my other teacher, i also have a painting and i'm getting her customised earrings from etsy. but none of the sellers have replied so i'm getting really worried.

- maths: don't even know what's going on with the gift for our maths teacher. apparently we're getting her customised things, a card and a new pencil case? maybe a bottle of red wine? who knows?

- society & culture: we're contributing $10 each and we're getting her a baby hamper because she's pregnant and will probably give birth in october (predicted date is my birthday!!). gonna go shopping sometime this week.

- ancient: we're just getting our teacher a pair of earrings from kookai and a card. kinda feel bad because she's getting barely nothing compared to other teachers. but then again, half the class is broke and don't like her at all. it's very debatable, i must admit. edit: the earrings look like a spartan red headdress. my teacher has mentioned so many times that she would be a spartan woman if she weren't living in the 21st century.

- english: our teacher's gift just doesn't exist at all. for a class of twenty, no one has mentioned getting her a gift. not even the top students. i feel so bad. i've asked people but literally no one wants to get her anything.

- catholic studies: we want to get her a customised shirt and cap but i doubt its gonna come on time. half the class is broke and don't even care about getting her a gift. me and my friends really want to get her the things but we don't have enough time >:(

also my formal is this friday which is pretty exciting!!!! but there's so much money involved. i'm going to be broke at the end of this week. goodbye $$$ from work.

100% feel the gift situation - what you've got planned sounds great!! we only have solid gifts for modern (combined with the ancient class, because we have the same teacher) and legal, and the others... who the heck knows. no one's planned anything for english, because the department is that bad. whoops.

formal this week? have fun!!!

aw thanks! i love my teachers too much (i'm a bit of a teacher's pet ngl) and they deserve everything in the world but i'm running out of money :'(

as for my formal dress, this is what it looks like

I was trying to look for something similar to Pia Wurtzbach's dress when hosted Miss Universe 2017 because it looked really pretty. As for the shoes, I'm literally wearing the same ones I wore for my Year 10 formal because I'm saving my money for the teacher gifts.

like i said to jess (above) i really loveeee my teachers and want to give them everything. but i'm running out of money, so i'm afraid i have to sacrifice my english teacher's gift. everyone at my school neglects the standard english teachers. everyone hates them and i feel soooo bad.

formal this week? have fun!!!

thanks! i'm super super excited! i'm determined to get a photo with every teacher on the night.

"so i'm moving on, letting go. holding onto tomorrow"

today was somewhat unproductive.

- society & culture / teacher wasn't here so we had to study in the library. didn't have my sac textbook so i had to walk around the school trying to find one and ended up going into my teacher's office and grabbed her copy. by the time i made it back to the library, i had 20 minutes left to make notes on buddhism. but i got distracted by my friends oops. won't happen again.

- catholic studies / finished '10 things i hate about you'. this was my first time watching the film. very interesting... might go read taming of the shrew if i have any spare time.

- double study / spent the first half talking to my year 11 friend who was stressing about her prelim eng ext. 1 exam. bless her, she's so precious. as for the second half, i was so annoyed because i couldn't answer the essay question for the independent trial paper 1. it was so hard. i would like to formally apologise to everyone who wanted to talk to me during this time, but i would just purse my lips and burst in anger because i couldn't answer the essay question. crazy what english and the hsc can do to you.

- english / teacher wasn't here. spent entire lesson searching for teacher's presents for my art teachers. the budget keeps going down because less people are contributing.

after school / booked my nail appointment. continued editing the end of year 12 video, that's going to be presented at our graduation assembly next week. it's about ~16 minutes long so far. it has a lot of sad songs, so i'm expecting tears. my individual gift for my art teacher has arrived and it looks AMAZING!! one of the etsy sellers has finally responded to my custom order, so hopefully my gift for my other art teacher will come next week.

i tried writing more for my english essay but i can't do it. i know it's good practice but i'm stressing about formal, my film portfolio, teacher gifts and graduation, that i cannot be bothered. i promise i will do a lot of revision during the school holidays. im also trying to write my art essay, which is pretty much sprinkled with a lot of bs.

also submitted my draft for my film portfolio to the adv/ext.1 english teacher at my school. she made me promise if i ever become a famous filmmaker in the future, i have to invite her to all vip events and premiere. to that i said, 'of course i will'

i also applied for uac on sunday ???????? my mum still made me apply for unsw even though i'm already enrolled at a film school. (i picked screen and sound at unsw and some random courses for my other preferences)

can't remember what exactly happened yesterday besides we had our last ever lesson with one of our art teachers. i also had three hours of maths tutoring after school and it's safe to say that i survived. went through all my mistakes from the cssa paper and discovered that i just kept making silly mistakes and that i was heading in the right track for some of the questions i got wrong ...

anyways

september 13, 2017

double ancient / i never would have thought i would say this in my life ever, but i'm so sick of kahoot. we literally played kahoot quizzes for 1.5 hours. our teacher even managed to find a 71 question quiz for sparta. i'm surprised that i made it to the end and even ended up getting 2nd place with 66,000+ points! (discovered that eunomia was a thing. thanks lycurgus)

maths / the entire class just kept talking about how we've developed and improved since year 7. its strange looking back on my junior year, because i used to be in the middle class for maths ( from year 7 to 8 ). i've had the same teacher since year 8 (with the exception of year 10) and she's still proud that i'm doing mathematics for the hsc.

art / learnt SO MUCH about mona hatoum. i love my (other) art teacher. she's so passionate and so clever. even though she's reading off the presentation at times, she still manages to capture our attention. wished i had more teachers like that. since today was technically the last day that both of our teachers were at school together, we gave them our gifts. the vice principal even came in at one point (she's also the head of the art department) to see the gift giving. our art teachers LOVED it and they said their thank you's and how proud they are of us for getting through our body of works. i'm gonna miss them so much. i love them. if it weren't for them, i probably won't be doing art for the hsc.

at lunch time, the prefects presented the 'most likely' awards in our common room. as expected, i got the 'quickest speaker' award. when you guys meet me at the nsw forum meetup, you will see that this is very true.

still gotta vote for the day for the forum meetup. once i fix up my study timetable, i'll pitch in my vote ;D

- we had our junior dresss up day today so we had to wear our old junior uniform. at least ten people said i still looked like a year 7
- had to help our english teacher figure out directions on our to get to our formal venue tomorrow
- last ancient lesson ever! we got her "spartan headdress" earrings and card. we took pictures during class as well
- last art lesson ever! super sad about this. my art teacher shared with us a good slide presentation on how to do the written exam.
- we had our teachers vs year 12 netball game at lunch. we obviously lost. all the male teachers were just too tall.

its also "r u ok" day today? so, are you ok?

even though my formal is tomorrow and everyone's super hyped up about it, im just really not in the mood to go.

hope things change tomorrow :)

I reckon this is gonna happen to me on our junior day too! People also say I look like my sister (year 10) and the only reason they know the difference is because of our uniforms. Gonna use this to my advantage and swap places with her in her science class hopefully and see if the teacher notices.

Hopefully your plan works ;) In the past, a teacher dressed up as a junior and joined my science class (we used to do teacher auction at my school). Took our science teacher a while to realise that his colleague was in the class :D

this entry is a little bit different. it’s just about my year 12 formal.

september 15, 2017

we had the entire day off to get ready. though formal prep didn’t really start until 3pm because that’s when my makeup appointment was. as soon as i got home from my appointment, i got an uber with my parents to our hotel and got ready there.

things were hectic because i haven’t done my hair at this point and i had to do my mother’s makeup. nevertheless, we managed to get everything done. i ended up straightening my hair (even though i already have naturally straight hair). i met two of my friends in the lobby and walked to the formal venue. we met more of our friends at the meet up place and took photos as a squad. as soon as we got to the venue, we had to get patted down by security. whilst that was happening, the staff kept serving us mocktails. ironic indeed.

i walked around the venue while people were still getting to the location. said hi to other girls in my year group, took photos with teachers and sat at my table. not gonna lie, the first two hours were so slow. however at 9:30pm, that’s when things started to pick up. music blaring. people dancing. a lot of photo taking. makeup retouching. eating. but mostly dancing. i had to take off my shoes, they were like three inch heels. music was terrible but the songs of whitney houston, michael jackson and abba brought all the teachers, parents and students together. i even joined the teacher’s dance circle at one point.

highlight of the night was definitely seeing everyone so beautiful and bonding with each other in the last few days of year 12. like i was so used to seeing these people in their school uniforms and tired because they haven’t gotten enough sleep. but everyone was dressed up, happy and energised. another highlight was finally getting photos with my favourite teachers. i respect them so much and i will miss talking to them.

at the end of the formal, it hits me. i’m graduating next week. i will be done with high school. i have to do the hsc. i have to go to university. my high school has always been my safe space. i don’t want that stripped away from me.

the thought of graduating is so sad.

I cried (and so did a lot of other people) when I walked out of my final school assembly!
Yeah, it's sad that high school is finishing - it's something familiar, you always have a fair idea of what's going on and what you're gonna be doing in the future, it's a really safe environment, and like, you've been there for a significant portion of your life.

But what comes after high school is also exciting, fun and new. You'll be starting a new chapter of your life, which is daunting, but also pretty rad. Plus, you'll have those positive memories of high school to look back on and cherish :)

Super happy that you had an awesome time! Sounds like it was a really awesome night. :D

I loathed high school so much from Year 7 to 9. Kinda wish I could turn back the clock and start all over again and appreciate school a bit more. But I gotta live in the now.

Since I officially have three days left, I just wanna say ... bring on the tears. Bring on graduation. Bring on the next chapter of my life. I'm going to cherish the next three days with all my heart. On Monday, we have our last day of lessons and a netball game with our brother school. On Tuesday, we have morning tea for the teachers, mass rehearsals and house assembly. On Wednesday, we have our graduation assembly with the school, graduation mass and graduation ceremony with our parents.

Crazy how quick time flies...

last day of lessons

- society & culture / just ate and talked. got a class photo. teacher got us cupcakes (we still haven't finished the course. i gotta teach myself during the holidays then)
- english / did a kahoot quiz. came 8th place because i completely forgot about my prescribed text for discovery.
- maths / MORE FOOD. at this point i was getting sick and really full
- catholic studies / watched moana. our teacher gave us a heartfelt letter each. im gonna miss her so much

we had our netball game with our brother school at lunch. it's always been tradition to swap clothes with the boys, so we looked perfectly fine in their sports uniform. the boys had to wear our netball gear and short skirts. i didn't play but i did watch from the sidelines. the boys were extremely tall and kept shooting. at one point, two boys carried the goal shooter so that he could easily shoot the ball in the hoop. after 40 minutes of playing, our school managed to win (for the first time in forever). the referee (a teacher from our school) lost count of the score and assumed that we won ahahah.

- study / i could've gone home if i wanted to. but i didn't. i stayed round, edited more of the year 12 video and stayed in the common room.

got feedback back for my film portfolio and well ... the teacher who marked said it was good for someone who has english as their second language. (english is actually my first language but i can't be bothered to correct her). i don't know... i'm beginning to doubt myself. hopefully tomorrow, i'll wake up with a refreshed brain and confidence that i desperately need.

also had to bake cupcakes for the teacher morning tea tomorrow :)

- had graduation assembly rehearsals in lesson one. one of my favourite teachers was in charge and i applaud him for all the effort he has put in for tomorrow's ceremony. he couldn't pronounce my last name properly, so i told him that he can just say 'teriyaki' instead. when i said that, he laughed, patted me on the shoulder and told me to get off the stage. thought that was hilarious ;D  ;D
- principal announced next year's leadership team and i'm so happy that all my year 11 friends got in!
- finished editing the end of year 12 video. im super excited for everyone to see it (im expecting tears)
- had our morning tea with our teachers. the food, can i just say, was DELICIOUS
- we had our graduation mass rehearsal at the local church. i have to read two paragraphs for the prayers of intercession. im soooo nervous. i really don't want to stuff it up
- had our last lunch in the common room. we just played random songs and sang along
- we had our house assemblies. my homeroom captain gave me a farewell speech and i cried in front of my house. truly embarrassing. i finally got one of those graduation bears. the house captain mentioned all the year 12s in her speech and this is what she said about me. "bea i've watched countless videos that you have edited, which will eventually become your career in the future". this gave me alot of reassurance and courage, so thanks house captain/my actual friend hehe!

i just finished painting my paintings for my art teachers. i gotta move on to my thank you cards for my teachers.

i graduate tomorrow. this high school chapter is about to end...

september 20, 2017

we did it. the graduating class of 2017. we made it to the end of our schooling life.
today has been a very long day. i'll try my best to explain.

- first period: we had to answer a survey about the school, what was its strengths and weaknesses etc. we were also asked to sign the school's yearbook.
- second period: had to practice our year group song that we were gonna sing at our school's graduation assembly

graduation assembly:
- our student leadership team had to pass down their roles to the newly elected leadership team of 2017-2018.
- our school captain said a really nice and inspiring speech.
- next year's school captain said a really touching speech, nearly cried. she was amazing
- the two videos i edited for the assembly were featured. the first video was of memories from year 7 to year 12. really hilarious photos were featured and some cute photos as well. there were alot of giggles and awwws from my year group. the other video consisted of our baby photo, year 7 and year 12 video. there were definitely more giggles and awwws for this video.
- had this cute bit during assembly where a year 7 would give us a hug and a flower. it was sooo adorable
- sang our year group song (breakaway by kelly clarkson) infront of the school. we were terrible and super loud, but hey it's our last day.
- the students made this arch and we had to run outside. one of the girls guided us in our year 12 chant.

"interwar" period:
- as soon as assembly ended, we could go home. but me and my friends decided to order pizza and eat at the school.
- gave my thank you cards to all my teachers. also gave my gifts to my visual arts and society & culture teachers. im gonna miss them so much.

graduation mass:
- i honestly couldn't contain my giggles during mass because my favourite teacher sat behind me and his singing nearly killed me. im going to miss him so much.
- had to sit in the front row (because i was a speaker) so i had the "full" experience of the mass
- the father gave a good homily about graduating and venturing the outside world.
- i had to do my part in the prayers of intercession and said the prayer in two languages!
- we received personalised candles with our names on them which were super adorable

supper:
- year 11 hospitality girls cooked our supper for tonight and they were DELICIOUS
- got pics with all my favourite teachers and all my friends

graduation ceremony:
- we had to walk down a literal red carpet in our school hall with an irish jig in the background. don't ask why an irish jig was played, ask my favourite teacher ;)
- the school gave us a folder with our graduation certificate, pictures and a letter from the ceo.
- i received two awards; academic application for standard english and first in course for visual arts. these awards mean the world to me. i also got a gift voucher for eckersley's which is pretty cool
- special awards were given to the other girls in my year group.
- my friend performed a beautiful violin piece and a girl performed her hsc drama monologue.
- another video was played with our year 12 pictures. i'm not exaggerating when at least ten girls turned to face me and asked "did you edit this?". turns out it was (really unexpected) my favourite teacher! super proud.
- the principal's award for contribution to college life was given to two girls in my year group and me! I was given the award last and people cheered for me when i got on the stage. i felt so blessed. it has been an honour to have been a media representative for the school. from this award, i got a gift voucher for harry hartog. guess who's gonna go treat her self this weekend ;)
- sang our school's anthem for the last time.
- had our final roll call and walked out the hall. we did our year 12 chant for the last time ever

aftermath:
- one of my friends started crying, so i cried
- had to say goodbye to our common room, which is going to be converted into a classroom next term. we are so blessed to have been the last year group to use the common room.
- hugged my teachers and even started crying in front of my society & culture teacher and also cried in front of the two science teachers.
- cried more when i saw two of my friends
- cried more in my uber. uber driver was so nice to me during the ride

I would like to formally thank my school for being the best school ever. I have found all my beautiful friends, amazing teachers and most of all; myself at this school. We have such a tiny cohort that we know each other personally and we are so supportive of one another. I couldn't have asked for a better group of girls to graduate with. I will miss them.

I would like to thank all my teachers. I admit I am a teacher's pet, but that's because I truly enjoy talking to my teachers. They're basically my mentors. I hope I can keep in touch with them after the HSC. Knowing me, I'll probably come visit my school when I'm at uni. The principal even asked me if I'll return to take more photos for the school and to that I said 'of course I will'

Now where to now? I gotta fix up my study schedule, finalise my portfolio for AFTRS and smash the HSC!

i will officially start my hsc revision tomorrow. i have english tutoring early in the morning.

rant lol
after lying and sleeping in my bed for the past two days, clearly still upset about graduating, i discovered that my media teacher wrote me a letter of recommendation for my film portfolio. the thing is, i've already gotten one from my art teacher already and i really prefer her letter over my media teacher's.  i've known my art teacher longer (since year 8) and i've known my media teacher since year 11. i really don't know how to tell my media that i'm not using her letter ... i feel bad

You've got this Bea! We're here if you need us ;D

Spoiler
This might be one of those things you just keep to yourself. It doesn't devalue their gesture in any way if you don't use it, and telling them you aren't using it is probably unnecessary! That's my opinion at least - I don't think there's anything wrong with just keeping that hidden and letting their gesture speak for itself :)

day one of hsc revision

- worked on mod a with my english tutor. i am amazed how she can whip out a beautifully constructed analysis in a matter of seconds and makes me wish that i could be like that one day
- tried doing the 2005 maths paper and just gave up. i had to keep looking at the solutions because my brain started to hurt. super upset that i can't even make it past question six.
- nothing much really. very unproductive day.
- though i'm planning on writing notes for society & culture tonight

not really relevant, but you could read if you want
i really want to dye my hair blue black during these holidays. i'm entering my 'rebellious teen' stage at this really late point of my youth. i just need to take my mind off the hsc so that i could stop pressuring myself and stressing

Dye your hair!! If you have permission etc etc...do it as a reward/motivation when you are feeling frustrated/angry/utterly worthless  :D

after the meetup yesterday, i woke up today feeling refreshed and was determined to get a lot done today

- i wrote a three page english essay for mod a (tad bit longer than i expected. hoping my teacher will enjoy marking it when i submit it to her tomorrow)
- answered the sparta questions from the 2015 ancient paper. i literally had three books in front of me. so much information to memorise ???
- did questions 1-7 in the 2007 mathematics paper
- gave my friend feedback on her creative
- even did the laundry and cleaned my room (this is a miracle considering i'm a really lazy person)

very productive day indeed ...

also shoutout to susie for reading over my application for film school! really appreciate it!!  ;D  ;D

Spoiler
asked my mother if i could dye my hair black blue and she said no. rip. i gotta wait when i've got grey hair to dye it ahaha

the hsc is slowly approaching which is scaring me a lot. all i've done is my film application, two maths past papers (ignored the hard questions at the end though), one english essay and one set of sparta questions ...

i'm hoping to submit my film application tomorrow so that i can focus on my hsc studies. i'm currently prioritising english, maths and ancient seeing that they are my first exams. society & culture and visual arts are my last two.

october 16 (monday): paper one
october 17 (tuesday): paper two
october 23 (monday): mathematics
october 24 (tuesday) ancient history
november 2 (thursday): society & culture
november 3 (friday): visual arts

as you can see, my subjects are back to back... thanks nesa i guess ...

just submitted my film portfolio!!!!! (results come out in the third week of november). can't believe it's all over, after all the drama and stress. what a relief honestly.

now i just have to study for the hsc. i'm really aiming for a 90 ATAR now instead of the 85. the atar calculator said if i get:

english: 85-87+
maths: 83+
visual arts: 96+
sac: 84+
ancient: 83+

for my hsc marks, i can get 91.10. the thought of being recognised as a 90+ atar student at my school's high achievers assembly next year is nice. though i wouldn't mind getting 85+. but still ;)

i want my friends' atars to go up, my year group to work together and get the school a decent ranking this year. but most importantly, i want to make my parents proud. they've worked so hard to get me where i am and the least i can do is to perform well in the hsc.

that would be nice.

procrastinated WAY too much today. in my study timetable, i said i would do my buddhism notes, do my mod c essay and answer the 2006 maths paper. but guess what? it's already 10pm and all i've done is half my essay and a half page worth of notes.

maybe i should've given myself a day break after submitting my portfolio.
i regret everything.

although to be fair, i watched billy elliot, found a new ort for mod c and read some parts of my prescribed text for mod b (it's a book)
i should give myself a pat on the back for that.

it's been a very english day today. my english teacher would be proud.

i am SERIOUSLY doing a bad job with revising for the hsc. with 12 days left, i want to try to get one english essay, half of a maths paper and a set of ancient questions done per day. if i have extra time, i'll make notes for society & culture. as for art, i'm leaving my revision four days before the exam. i feel that for art, the less i revise for it, the more bs comes out of my exam. and that bs turns out pretty well.

i'll update you guys how i go tomorrow.

For English, I tend to just look at the question, take five minutes to *plan* out a response (I don't actually write a response). While I do think practice writing a full essay is important, that becomes useless if you don't know where the direction of your argument is headed. If I were to write a response, I'd definitely having it open book first, and then gradually shift to a closed book exam. Definitely should get one under exam condition; get as uncomfortable as you can and mimic exam conditions.

For Mathematics, I just do the exams under exam conditions. Helps you to calm down before the HSC exams.
Been stuck with 96% for the 2014 and 2013 3u exams with 10 minutes to spare (need to get to 100% before the HSC).

Just some things you may want to consider to get your motivations up haha

okay okay soooo some progress is being made

- finished the 2016 question for my mod c. gotta get that typed up and submit it to the essay marking thread ;)
- did the hard Q8 and Q9 questions from the 2006 and 2007 maths papers. still ignoring all the question 10s because I REFUSE (i should definitely do them one day)
- did half of the 2015 xerxes question (10 marker). discovered i barely have notes on xerxes' building programme  :-\

went to the library with my friends today. not sure if it helped though? was nice seeing them again but it was a bit loud and distracting. don't get me wrong, i love them but they always go off track at times...

i'll decide tomorrow if i still want to study with them or not...

Think I should do essay scaffolds for now (esp. for english and ancient). I need to learn how to structure my stuff...

As for Maths, I keep making really silly mistakes! I was at tutoring today and for one question I had -16 and in the next line I had +16. So careless!! I need to learn to stop making mistakes!!

Right now my only motivation is the high achievers' assembly next year so that I have an excuse to visit my school hehe ;) (i miss my school so much)

Omg girl, that high achievers' assembly is literally the primary motivating factor towards my goal of 90+, even though I haven't even gone into Year 12 yet. Man, seeing your teachers and peers after such a long absence and stressful time would be so fulfilling. I hope you're able to make it there, keep persevering ;D

It was a well known fact in my year level that if you wanted a quiet study area, you should go to the year 12 common room, and if you wanted a social time and didn't want to do much work, you should go to the library lol.

Funnily enough, making my school's "Academic Honours Society" (95+ ATAR) so I would get an invite to the first assembly of 2017 was one of my main goals for year 12 - I didn't think I'd ever make it haha, but having something tangible to work towards (I never actually had a goal ATAR, besides wanting to get above 90) was great for me. Long story short, I ended up making it, and got to go back, which was awesome :D It's super cool getting to see your teachers when you're no longer their student.

Same with my school but if you wanted a quiet study area then too bad. Both the common room and the library were used for social purposes. Hope the upcoming Year 12s don't repeat the same mistakes my year group did haha

Aww thanks for sharing your story with us! This definitely makes me want to put in that extra effort now!! At my school, our definition of high achievers are people who got at least one Band 6 or an ATAR above 90 for the HSC. Our school is pretty small so only 8-15 people get in each year. Hope things change ;D

Once we leave unless you get dux my school does not care about 'high achievers', literally you graduate high school and never return omg  ;D

Oh that sucks! All the high achievers should be commended for their hard work, not just the dux ;) (well the dux is pretty impressive but still)

Did an incomplete discovery essay, with one body paragraph and conclusion missing. Did Q1-Q7 in the 2007 Maths paper. Was about to do a Greek World essay but had to teach my mum about the Persian Wars instead. Kinda helped in a way because she asked me questions about the Ionian Revolt and realised that I needed to revise on that section (dammit Aristagoras!!!)

Why is the HSC getting closer each day smh.

I'm planning to go to school on Monday really quick to drop off my English essays and Ancient practice answers.

Well well well what did I get up to today?

Finished Q8-9 in the 2007 Maths paper (skipped Q10 because no). Could've moved onto the 2008 one but I kept making a lot of mistakes and I was so mad at myself. Needed a break from all the maths (especially finance smh).

I (finally) did the 2016 question for Mod B. Realised that I know like 5 quotes. This is a HUGE problem AHHHH. But I ended up finding this 10 page quote booklet that our teachers provided us. What a relief. Though I felt like I was repeating myself in my essay. Too much of 'Harry Lavender', 'Sydney' and 'corruption'. Also I haven't done any of my english essays under timed conditions... I always do open book because I can't remember all my quotes. I'll probably do timed conditions on Thursday onwards. I also attached three batteries on my pen. Hoping I can write faster during the HSC.

Did some Pompeii and Herculaneum questions from the 2013 ancient paper. Multiple choice was ridiculous and I actually got a headache when I reached the second short answer question. Felt like my brain was going to explode (but not to the extent of the people who died during the eruption though)

I'm gonna go to school tomorrow to submit my english essays to my teacher :)

Good luck to all the new Year 12s starting tomorrow ;D ;D

after handing in my essays to my teacher on monday, i went back to school today to collect them. im super super glad that she liked them because i worked so hard for this subject honestly. i have this need to prove all the english teachers wrong at my school. they all look down on me because i'm asian and think i can't express myself as well as the other girls in year.

well guess what?? she thought i have improved greatly since the start of the hsc. i'm so relieved because i was worried that my essays are still not up to par. my teacher also liked my creative story too. she said that i was the most improved in the class of twenty. this is huge considering that she's also a current hsc marker for both advanced and standard!

Spoiler
so here's a massive 'f u' to all the english teachers who said i'm terrible at english just because i'm asian (especially my year 10 teacher who said i wasn't good enough for advanced). i know i do standard, but hey! 41 people do standard and i'm coming seventh place. who said asians were bad at english?

i'm in a really good mood right now. i really want that band 6 for english.

i feel like betty cooper right now

I can't believed that I did paper one and paper two under timed conditions today. How did I survive writing for two hours straight? I had to stop at times to massage my hand. I did the questions from the 2017 Independent Trial papers and they were HARD.

Not gonna lie but I've gotten a bit slow at writing since trials which is a worry. I didn't even get to writing my conclusions for the unseen texts mini essay, mod B and C. I'm still dependent on my notes. I feel that I'm more prepared for paper two than paper one. Can't believe that the HSC is on Monday ahhhhh!!

Tomorrow I will answer the new AN Paper One practice paper ;) Gotta practice section 1 especially. I completely bs'd section 1 of Paper one in the trials and managed to get a decent score (even though I studied for it once). Though I know I can't risk not practicing my weakest section.

Was supposed to do more maths but my friends came to my house today for dinner ;D .

did three sets of unseen texts questions since yesterday. wrote out my creative four to five times in the past 48 hours. just a lil bit worried that i'll forget some parts in the actual exam.

just gotta remember
- anger
- river
- price

each word represents what each paragraph is mostly about...

as for my essay, i'm just hoping that my quotes suit the question.

i will memorise more quotes before i go to sleep.

good luck to everyone tomorrow ;D

paper one:
- didn't understand any of the unseen texts at all. was literally praying for a visual text but jinxed myself. glad that they only provided three texts though as this gave me enough time to answer the mini essay.
- the third quote for the creative section was perfect my story.
- just a bit worried that my structure was a bit meh. like i had two integrated paragraphs and kind of ignored one part of the questions oops.

paper two:
- mod a [distinctively visual - douglas stewart]: not a bad question. super glad they didn't ask for a specific poem.

- mod b [close study - harry lavender]: seriously the worst question i've encountered for this module so far. i was procrastinating during the exam because i didn't know what to do. the question was 'how does the narrative point of view make day's novel unsettling'. talked about the dual narrative and harry lavender (the antagonist). my tutor mentioned that i could've mentioned claudia valentine as a narrator because she's a female detective, challenging the conventions of a hard boiled genre book, therefore making day's book unsettling. super mad i didn't mention claudia AT ALL. i was so used to seeing female detectives in crime shows that i didn't think claudia as a narrator was unsettling. but that's all in the past i guess...

- mod c [exploring transitions - billy elliot]: since i procrastinated during mod b, this ate time into my mod c essay and didn't mention as many key ideas as i should've. question was fairly easy and similar to discovery. i was really distracted during mod c because they turned off the air conditioner and a girl decided to move seats and at least two supervisors had to accompany her ... i'm so bad at concentrating ahh

what now?
- revising for maths by doing past papers. i'm currently ignoring the finance questions because i suck at them. but i know i have to do them eventually in the future. also have time myself under timed conditions.
- doing past papers for ancient history. my notes are so synthesised that there's barely any detail, so i have to go back to the textbook and do an open book test instead.
- society & culture is in two weeks and we still haven't finished our notes and the course! i'm so worried.
- like i previously mentioned, i will study for visual arts 3-4 days before the exam. why? the less i study, the more bs comes out in my exam. and for some reason, bs in art is encouraged.

hope everyone is going well with their hsc exams  ;D

Just realised I haven't made an entry in so long oops... ANYWAYS

mathematics:
went better than expected .... I'm really surprised. except question 16 (screw you john and your bike)

ancient history:
pompeii and herculaneum: not bad besides the extended response AHHH
spartan society: best section out of the four!! predicted the extended response question so i was super happy!
xerxes: really didn't like any of the questions ...
greek world: 500BC-440BC: did this section last and at this point i kind of gave up. the dot point i studied for wasn't even included  :'(

what now?
- revising for society & culture is KILLING ME. i had exactly eight days to revise and guess who left it at the last minute? i don't mind the core topic but the electives are so meh. the focus study for social conformity and non-conformity is christiania and i really don't like it. i guess i have to talk about nazis and neo-nazis tomorrow because they're so much easier to write about than christiania. also, despite not finishing the course at all for belief system and ideologies at school, i taught myself the entire topic. not bad as i expected but it's really bland. it just feels like i did SOR 2 :/

everytime i try to write an essay for SAC, it takes me about 3 hours because i get so bored easily. i'm so scared for the exam tomorrow.

- as for visual arts, i'm just memorising the same essay that i wrote for trials. i also plan on NOT studying for section 1 :)

exactly on november 3 (this friday!) at 3:30pm, i will be officially done with the hsc!!!!

i wonder how everyone is going with their hsc exams ...
Title: Re: Bee(a) buzzing through the hsc

*dobby voice* bea has no hsc ... bea is a FREE ELF!!!!
finished my last hsc exam yesterday afternoon woooo!!!! ;D ;D

my thoughts for my last two exams:

society & culture:
I can already tell that this was my worst exam. Not enough concepts, examples and all my essays was just me ranting half the time oops. Hoping my answers for the core topic will pull  my mark up.

visual arts:
strangely harder than trials? out of the six essay questions, i was passionate for NONE OF THEM. it's so hard writing an art essay if you're not passionate about the essay question :( . everyone in my class did question 7 and i was the only one who did question 8 ahahaha. it was a frames question which i usually never do because apparently they give lower marks for it... hoping my analysis was alright. my answers for section 1 were a bit of a stretch. super annoyed that half the plates in section 1 were classical/traditional artworks. nothing wrong with them besides the fact you can only give a literal interpretation. gimme some abstract, contemporary works please. but besides from that, this was my strongest exam... hoping for a 94%+

if i had to rank my strongest exam to my weakest, it has to be...

1. visual arts without a doubt. i trust both my (hsc markers) art teachers. im hoping a guaranteed band six for this subject. wish i could get a state rank but my second assessment task ruined my internal mark average ahhh. would love to get nominated for art express (a couple of girls from my school get nominated. one girl last year got accepted!).
2. paper one strange enough ... i liked the unseen texts (besides the notorious mango poem even though i used it for the mini essay because the third unseen text was bad)
3. ancient history: worked my butt off for this subject. despite my hatred for ancient at the start of the year, i've grown to love it in the end.
4.mathematics: just a bit paranoid i made a lot of silly mistakes because i rushed in the exam (got through q1-q15 in the first two hours. even had time to go to the bathroom which made the other girls in the exam a bit anxious)
5. paper two... module b essay was so bad mmhh. mod a was alright and didn't put enough ideas as i would have wanted in my mod c.
6. society & culture (reasons being it my weakest exam mentioned above)

what now?
- just waiting if i got accepted into aftrs or not. offers come out third/last week this month. if i don't get in, i will go to aftt or to uts.
- of course my dearest atar... at this rate, i really don't mind getting 87+ instead of 90+. i know scaling and your school's rank doesn't matter but i just don't trust some of the people from my school.
- the post-hsc meetup is this wednesday which is super exciting!
- trying to find a new job seeing that my boss removed me off the roster and i think she doesn't like me...
- might help some people from my school with their PIPs and BOWs.

might do one or two more posts in this board about my review of my hsc year and some advice for the new year 12s...

Congrats on finishing! what are you planning to do with your freedom now? Any HSC celebrations etc.?

Thanks! Honestly right now I'm just planning on binge watching Suits ahahah. I'm currently on season two. Also trying to find a new job at the same time. I haven't really planned any HSC celebrations because a) I'm a bit sad because I don't know what to do now and b) got invited to go this HSC celebration at a club in the city but it's not my scene. I need to find a new job too! -as well as sort out my formal dress, sort out my stuff for sign out day and pack for camping AND study for drama so idk how I'm gonna get everything done omg, which leads me to answering your questions - I'm going on a camping trip to Taralga for 2 nights and possibly some work experience and other holidays that haven't actually been planned yet only spoken of. Also yes I am going to the meet up so I guess I'll see you there!  :)

I didn't expect to be crying 30 minutes before my job interview today because I got accepted into ARTEXPRESS and the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). The emails had a 20 minute gap between them. I was still recovering from the ARTEXPRESS selection when I got the AFTRS acceptance email.

That's it. I got my first preference for my tertiary education. My BOW will be displayed at the Orange Regional Gallery next year. No more pressure to get that 90+ ATAR.
And to that I say, the HSC has been a great ride. I'm so excited for what the future holds.

November 27, 2017 is a day I will forever hold in my heart.

Though I'm still curious what I got for my HSC marks and what my ATAR is.
Just in 18 days, I'll know.

It's December 2 today and it's been about three months since I submitted my body of work to NESA. Yet I wouldn't be expecting to be stressing about another BOW proposal because I've been helping my Year 12 friend who's proposal is due this Thursday! We're currently working on a doc together and I've been suggesting a lot of artists of influence and directions she can go in.

Even though I'm lowkey stressing because I cannot think of an effective way for my friend to represent her concept figuratively, I miss this rush of working on an assessment. I miss working on Visual Art assessments. I miss doing the body of work.

AFTRS starts in exactly 86 days! I'm so excited but am curious what assessments we have to submit and how each day is structured. We don't really have any lectures and it's a lot of practical stuff. Does that mean there will be a lot of group tasks? I'm a bit scared because I have to make friends again and when I started at my high school, it took me about 6 months to be comfortable with my friends... I'm the only person from my school who will be attending AFTRS next year.

12/13 days until our HSC/ATARs come out ...

Also I got a job at Priceline recently which is pretty exciting!

With one week to go before ATARs come out, I've recently looked over two discovery essays, one discovery short story, made a list of artists of influence and concepts and helped my friend with his multimedia major. It's strange how motivated I am to do HSC related work during post HSC (i'm really that bored, aren't I).

I started working at Priceline today and it's so different to my old chemist. It's a lot less busy, shorter shifts (+ breaks!) and a lot of products to memorise and things to say to the customers. I immediately get shut down when I ask a customer if they want to sign up for a Priceline Sister Club card :( (if you sign up for a membership card, you can get $5 off your next purchase btw).

I got rostered to work on the same day as my school's morning tea next Friday. My school's does an annual morning tea when ATARs get released. I really want to go to the morning tea to see all my teachers again. Ah should I bother asking my boss if I should do a later shift and do a shift on a different day. My shift on the 15th isn't an official shift (he just put me down for the day for "training"). I feel like it's too early to ask for a shift change. It's bad enough I'm not available for an entire month because I'm going overseas. But this morning tea is once in a lifetime. I get to see my teachers and the school for the last time this year. It didn't register in my brain when my boss gave me a shift that occurred as the same time as the morning tea. I was too excited to get back on the floor again after my lunch break that I didn't realise.

What should I do?

I think that you need to attend work.

Work might not be really busy , but they do need people on hand. You have sorta already shown a little bit of a lack of dedication.

Also, it may be hard for him to find another time to train you as they might be a fairly busy person. Then that may throw their plans out of whack,

December is a very busy time for retailers.. some bosses end up replacing you ... if you do not make yourself too available.

HSC marks are out tomorrow ...
ATARs come out on Friday ...

Honestly I'm not feeling too anxious about it because I already got my first preference which is AFTRS. But I obviously want decent marks because I want to make my parents proud and feel that all the hard work and sacrifices they've done for me have paid off at the end. I'm just praying for Band 5s for all my subjects and a Band 6 for Visual Arts. I would like a Band 6 for English Standard but ....... SCALING and my SCHOOL!!!! Also I wouldn't mind getting 87+ for my ATAR, but it'll be cool if I can get 90+ so I can get into my school's high achievers assembly next year ;)

I'm also praying for my school to get into the top 100 schools because that'll be cool. Our school's 2015 batch got 92nd in the state and my school kept talking about it for months on. It'll be cool if my year group gets the school into the top 100. But if not, that's alright. As long as everyone gets their desired results and ATAR, everything is good.

(also I'm REALLY loving my priceline staff discount)

Good luck to all 2017 HSC and VCE students! Hope you guys get your desired results and ATARs <3 We're so close to the end!

"What'll It Be?"
a post-ATAR post by Bea

I woke up today with a throbbing headache at 8:43am and first thing I did was check the HSC 2017 Discussion page on Facebook to check out the pre-ATAR memes. Though it came to my surprise when people said that the ATARs were already out. I was planning to get ready and to film my reaction but realised that my shift started in one hour so I had to get this ATAR out of the way. I typed in my student number and my pin and came out my ATAR of
bea's atar lol
89.50 lol. My HSC marks are in my signature lol

At first I was a bit disappointed because the ATAR calculators said I could get 90+. After reading my ATAR, my headache got worse. I called my parents and they were a bit sad at first because of how close the ATAR was but they didn't mind because they already knew I got into the film school I've always wanted to get into. Afterwards I took a shower, ate leftovers from last night and put on my work uniform. I walked into work with the worse headache in the world. I took a tablet of panadol, though the headache never went away.

Thirty minutes into my shift, I was fixing a display when I overhead a conversation between my boss and another co-worker in an aisle next to mine. I heard them say the words 'HSC' and knew they were going to ask me about it. They walked past me a second later and my boss said "Hey Beatrice. Apparently your HSC marks are out?". I told them my ATAR and they started congratulating me. Although, I was like "I was close to getting that 90+". I pretty much told every co-worker about my ATAR as a way of explaining why I had the worse headache in the world. The pharmacist recommended me Nuromol. Took about two hours for Nuromol to sink in. The headache was finally gone. But the thought of being so close to a 90 never went away.

As soon as I finished work, I called up my friend (who went to my school's morning tea) to ask how everyone went. Our school didn't get into the top 100 (as expected but I was really hoping to get into the top 100 like our 2015 cohort), therefore scaling didn't really favour anyone. However, all the teachers were super excited to see everyone again and congratulate us on our performance, regardless of ATAR or HSC marks. A couple of my friends got 90+ ATARs and I feel like such a proud mum. I'm also proud of those who got a Band 6 and everyone in general. I haven't got the confirmation letter but I'm pretty sure I will be invited to my school's high achievers assembly next year (thank you my Band 6 in Visual Arts and my ARTEXPRESS 2018 selection!). I hope that my achievements and the other achievements of my fellow high achievers can inspire the girls at my school. Good luck to my school's 2018 cohort. I'm confident that they will get amazing ATARs and can beat our school's ranking for this year (I don't mind them beating us. They're a lovely cohort)

It's currently 10:26pm and I'm typing this up. I guess it hasn't fully sunk in that I got (_____) for my ATAR but I have to accept it sometime soon. Everyone here on AN did such an AMAZING JOB with their HSC marks and ATARs! It blows my mind how intelligent people can be! I want to give everyone a hug. My ATAR doesn't really matter because I'm going to AFTRS next year anyways. I will be surrounded by my fellow filmmakers and I'm so excited. But I will miss learning my HSC subjects. I will miss writing essays about Marcel Duchamp's innovative 'Fountain' artwork. I will miss proving if a turning point is maximum or minimum. I will miss learning all about Darius I and Xerxes' pettiness towards the Greeks during the Persian wars. I will miss watching social experiments and discovering the impact of the Stanford Prison Experiments. I will miss exploring the world of Billy Elliot and his capacity to defy social and gender expectations. But most of all, I will miss my school. I will miss seeing the office ladies when I leave the school early. I will miss turning up late to school and being marked absent in homeroom (happened so many times already. Think my homeroom teacher hates me tbh). I will miss sitting in the common room with my friends. I will miss taking photos for the school as a media representative. I will miss talking to my teachers when I walk past them in the corridor.

Despite graduating back in September, I guess it has finally sunk in that I've graduated. My HSC marks and my ATAR are here. It's probably gonna take me about 2 days to feel fully satisfied with my ATAR, but I just have to keep remembering that there's a lot more in the future. I will be doing a Bachelor of Arts Screen: Production at AFTRS for three years. I will be attending my ARTEXPRESS exhibition in Orange in August next year. I will be discovering new paths and I can grow more as a person. I'm excited to experience more life experiences and events that I never experience during my time as a high schooler.

I know this entry sounds really cheesy and is super long but I thought my last(?) entry for my HSC Journey Journal has to finish with a BANG.

So that's Bea signing off. She's no longer buzzing through the HSC.

See you next year at the University Journey Journal forums ;) I shall be buzzing through film school soon.

x
