Say the director chooses to insert a type of music at a particular scene, does this come under cinematography?

Nope. Cinematography is the framing of the shot (image/video). Different to sound.

No but it is still a very important aspect of the film & it is there for a reason.

You can talk about sound.

Sound is split into Diegetic and Non-Diegetic Sound. Sound is included in the film but isn't a part of cinematography, you'd need to be quite specific as to what the sound is. In your case, music is non-diegetic.

Do I have to mention whether it's diegetic or not? Say if it was a fast paced beating of a drum

Beating of a drum is pre-recorded so it is non-diegetic. Screaming, talking, natural sound is all diegetic. I'd say it's fairly paramount that you show a notable difference.

Okay so in conclusion, are you saying that I can ONLY use sounds that are present within the shot(diegetic sounds) if the prompt is about cinematography?

I don't want to say yes, as I'm not entirely sure. I know that cinematography is the process of creating film through camera, lighting and movement. So i'm not sure if you're actually allowed to mention sound at all. I'll have a look around on the web for you.

There isn't much, but this is what I gathered:

  • Image sensor and film stock
  • Filters
  • Lens
  • Depth of field and focus
  • Aspect ratio and framing
  • Lighting
  • Camera movement

So i'd say you will have to talk about camera angles, movements, film noir, long and short sighted shots.

For example: "an overhead shot of Johnny Friendly witnessing Father Barry's sermon in the hold exemplifies his authority and power over the longshoremen. Kazan successfully portrays through camera angling that Friendly has total control of the isolated dock workers."

From what I remember I used sound/music as a cinematic technique.

Yeah it's a technique, so non-diegetic and diegetic sound are techniques. Cinematography is a different thing all together.
