I got 39 with 3 a+'s so i suggest you quit your complaining lol.

*not in IT in a different subj
Does your sub get scaled UP? Cause mine gets scaled down o.o

Anyways, I went to school today to sort this nonsense out.
My IT teacher told me, that I could get my SACs re-assessed BUT it's most likely they would be graded down or may no difference at all.
As for the exam, he told me he was pleased with my results, but dis-heartened because the worst performing student brought me and the top student down - he said i had gotten a score enough for 43+.
He also recommended i get my exam re-assessed and that if i need any support from him what so ever, i can contact him etc.
So, I'll carry out the inspection at school, i've ordered my SoM too.
Anyone know how long it takes for it to arrive?
How does that work? The worst performing student shouldn't bare any disadvantage to your score

It would only work if your teacher had that student at a higher ranking than yourself, and even then, it would make a small difference by itself. Only if your teacher screwed up his/her ranking of the cohort completely, would your score be dragged down considerably.

That's what I thought, especially because I had a read of this page the night before:

If you get the top sac mark, you will take your exam mark. If you get 2nd in sac marks, you get the 2nd exam mark. Thats the basics of sac moderations, but there are other factors. I still would get statement of marks and see how close ur exam mark is to the A+ cut off

Nacho: How can you get your exam re-assessed? I heard its virtually impossible unless there has been a clerical error.. and eve then VCAA are pretty stingy about anything that casts any doubt on their assessment process. I guess your teacher should have told you that or is there some way of doing it??

Yes, I agree. I think what has already been mentioned is right - all exams are marked twice, by two different exam markers. Hence, if one marker didn't pick something up, in most likelihood, the other one would have.

If you feel you have been done harshly and can justify it, then you should appeal. Firstly get your SoM and see how you went.

What you do is, apply for an inspection (either at the VCAA or at school)
you'll then get to see your exam paper, along with how many marks you were allocated for each question.
It's recommended you sit down with a subject expert, when analyzing your paper - any mistakes you/teacher pick up and disagree with, can then be given back to the VCAA and you can demand a reassessment of the exam.
E.g: I receive 1 mark for a 6 mark question. I look at my answer, and my teacher agrees that my answer was also worth 6 marks..

Someone from my school got English remarked last year, and got their ATAR pushed from 99.85 to 99.90, so it works.

If you notice a ridiculous amount of half marks (where you get 1/2 on 1 mark questions) I think you are justified to submit for a re-marking.

vce: english, methods, spesh, chemistry, physics, geography.

nice bump, thanks for bringing back the terrible memories..

I was rank 4 in a terrible cohort, (pretty sure it was the worst cohort in victoria, none of them got above a 60 ATAR)
teacher sucked so bad, he practically took a mark off every question just for fun
in fact, this is what lead to the downfall of my SS, SACs
we'd do a "practice SAC" (he actually winked like a faggot when he said they were practice sacs [yea he made them real sacs])
and he'd actually show us some of the answers on the smartboard.
EVERYONE copies the answers down while he shows us,
these are model answers,

i refine them, using textbooks and such, 30 page long SACS
fairly sure most of them collaborated, because he let us take them home..
when we hand in our SACs, he insists we print them out. The thing with IT is, the SACs are supposed to be on computer, so the teachers can see if formulas work or not, whether databases return queries etc.
Anyway, he pretty much didnt disclose the sac marks, 'because he had the right to choose to do so'

Found out I averaged 75%,
two other dropkicks managed an 80% and the rank 1, managed 85%..
sigh,
well the two dropkicks got like C's on the exam, rank 1 got a really low A+, cause his SS was only 42 (the A+ cutoff was 139/180)
and i also got an A+, with 150/180.

just to highlight to the extent of how bad that is, someone here got 140/180 and got an SS of 42.

stupid vce, stupid IT teacher, biggest moron on the planet.

last thing, he looks like the mexicans at the start of whitechicks. (and he's not from MacRob, i didnt go to MacRob in yr 11)

Im done venting for the year, until i get my atar resutls back.
 :coolsmiley:

btw, just a headsup
i did get my examination checked again.
sadly it was my IT teacher who was looking over it with me..
lost pretty stupid marks, but meh, no complaints with how it was marked, i think i did fairly okay. Only 5 more marks for a 50! (see Plan-B)

tl;dr
Do good on SACs and exams. If you think your teacher is a moron, or are unsure of his/her eccentric ways, tell a co-ordinator asap, and even bring your parents in.
Know how VCE works.

Haha sorry, dw I know the feeling. I had my Geography get crushed by my SAC marks. Cocky high ranking Melbourne High Humanities kids all flunked the exam (flunking meaning A and B+) and brought my sac marks down :(:(
