With my 4 subjects, maybe something like:

Literature   38 ---> 39
Health and Human Development (2006) 48 --> 47.2
Psychology   44 --->   43.8
Biology 38---> 39

Aggregate: 169
ENTER: 93.25

I'm not really sure though. I honestly have no idea what to expect.

Yeah expect 99 Jessie, and nothing less.

Lit and Media are actually really diffucult subjects to get good SS's in. All the folio subjects are... the scaling is so utterly crap for them and yet they require the most time...

*sigh*
That being said I would totally fail Methods, but some people doing methods and spesh etc would totally fail at lit and the arts, and yet they get massive scaling. It is all entirely relative.

Scaling works like this:

They look at each student's average raw score in their other subjects, and then take the average of that. Then that must become the new scaled mean of that subject's distribution. If all the smart students are doing the same set of subjects though, I've never really understood how that information transmits through to other subjects to indicate a level of difficulty.

It's supposed to be a measure of competitiveness, which means it is easier to get higher raw scores in subjects that scale less, by virtue of the fact that the other people in your subject are not high achievers.

mmm ty coblin, that makes sense.

I guess the GAT would play a fairly major part in that also then, since it is a common across-the-board assessment for all students.

How about students who qualify for derived examination scores? Where do they fit into this barrier? :)

Oh... I can't even think of a word... How do they fit into this equation (one of your words, Mao :))?

hehe :)

if done right, they don't need to be "fitted" into the equation. derived scores are meant to approximate (somewhat accurately) the actual scores, which means these are as valid as Mary Student's "normal" study scores. I'd assume they'd be used just as any others would be used.

even if not, there is only a small portion of students who receives derived scores, and that wouldn't impact the statistical model much at all.

[the short answer is, they should be treated as normal] :)
