The Quran is intended to preach peace and only peace. Their stance on adultery and homosexuality is ridiculous, in many middle eastern countries the sentences are death or a long time period in jail. Also, the Quran states somewhere that homosexuals should be stoned. Qur'an (7:80-84) - "...For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.... And we rained down on them a shower (of brimstone)"

Also, some are brainwashed by religion and resort to suicide bombing. I don't know where I would be able to find this, but I've read up before that some Islamic people suicide bomb in respect to their god Allah. However, the Quran clearly states that suicide is forbidden: "O ye who believe!... [do not] kill yourselves, for truly Allah has been to you Most Merciful.  If any do that in rancour and injustice, soon shall We cast him into the Fire..." (Qur'an 4:29-30).

Apart from this, I find them to be fairly nice though. They are strongly passionate about their religion and you probably have 0% chance in converting them. I've also spoken to some and they say those who act to harm others or cause chaos for no reason may claim to be Islamic, but in their gods eyes they actually aren't.

just like to add this isn't intended to be derogatory towards anyone.

Well said   :)

This is the case with more religions than just Islam, though.

0% chance in converting them? That's a lie...I was muslim before and practising this religion as much as I could, especially in Australia where muslims are the minority of population. Well I've recently decided to convert myself  and begun believing in no deity. I find it so ridiculous that muslims actually claim that Islam is the religion of peace. If you research the ways Islam was spread across the globe, you will definitely realise the amount of violence. Firstly, the Arabs declared wars upon those who did not convert themselves  into Islam...Some Turkish historians say that the Arabs  even did a massacre in the middle Asia, the homeland of Turkic people. It's even funny when some Turks claim that the Ottomans spread peace throughout the Balkans...Well the only purpose was to spread Islam...the other thing that they claim the Ottomans were peaceful against non muslims..That's a lie as well..The Ottomans collected high amount of taxes from non muslims (Armenians, Greeks, Hungarians etc). And I think Bosnians and Albanians became muslims just because of this.

No offence.

I think religion is negative when people let it think for them completely. Like there are the people who agree with some of what their religion preaches, and then there's the hardcore people who adhere so strictly to their religion that they don't have their own beliefs, just those of their religion. Especially considering that many religious texts were written hundreds/thousands of years ago, they tend to include some outdated views and can sometimes be sexist/homophobic/xenophobic, and the problem is that there are people today who accept such outdated views because of religion. Although our society and culture has evolved to accept things like equality and human rights, these religious beliefs usually don't change because of 'tradition', which leaves a lot of people with these old and crappy beliefs -_-
