I changed it to register, function and coherence/cohesion only a couple days ago and I found it MUCH better than subsystems.

Yeah definitely. I feel like it complexes your analysis and if you run out of time you've covered a lot in those paragraphs already

Do you start SA first or last?

Sorry for this delayed reply. I usually start with SA first but I've been having second thoughts and am now considering starting with the essay.
