500-600 for section B
600-700 for section C

Tbh if you analyse the text and answer the essay question effectively you'll notice that word count/quantity of pages doesn't cross your mind but the satisfaction of answering the question to the fullest! If you have answered the question as it should be, its enough writing! Don't fall under the trap of writing more as it usually flaws your cohesion. :)

Around 800-900 words for both essays. How much time are you guys planning to spend on each section? My teacher said 40 minutes should be spent on each essay to leave time for planning and reading over  :-\ yeah not gonna happen...

Yeah me too, usually about 850 for the commentary and essay has been in the range of 700 to 1,000. But I usually only manage 2 entire paragraphs for the essay and the third one is rather truncated due to time constraints. Generally I spent about 20-25 SA, 45 SB, 50SC, though I try and finish a bit early so I can read over my paper

I don't know man, it's hard to offer a detailed and insightful response imo unless you're writing a lot. Any less and I feel like I'm listing stuff rather than providing a detailed discussion of how it all links to the topic :s

I think that is really good. You can definitely do really well with that structure.

One of my friends full marked his trial exam and his essays were just like that.

Psyxwar you got an essay I can read? Tbh it's up to you! But considering we have ~45 mins on essay I feel like towards the end of it you'll be rushing thus threatening your cohesion!

Ikr timing is a struggle. I always go until the very last second writing a shit conclusion for my essay. But the examiners do not expect us to write a completely well-written essay because they know we only have such limited time. They know that ideally we want to write over 1000 words for both sections to get full marks, but who has the ability to write 1000 words in 45 minutes? So, as long as you manage to write well with insight and great examples, you will still score well and won't be heavily penalised if it gets a bit shaky at the end  :)

It's usually about 800-900 words for both the commentary and the essay.
I usually get SA done in about 20 minutes and leave about 45-50 minutes for the two writing pieces.
My teacher also recommends leaving time to check over but I'm usually left writing until the last minute. I'm never good at picking up on errors in essays/commentaries anyway so I'd probably just check over SA if I had time.

Do you start SA first or last?

This is exactly how I am approaching the exam. Probably less than 20 minutes for SA and more time in favour of the essay but definitely similar word counts. And I never bother to check my commentary or essay, I just add to my short answer if I need to.

btw, for discourse analysis, how do you guys break up your paragraphs? I used to break them up by subsystems but I'm thinking of breaking them up by how they contribute to the register, function, and coherence/cohesion of the text. Curious to see how you guys do it

Now isn't the time to change things up, go with what you're comfortable with.

I changed it to register, function and coherence/cohesion only a couple days ago and I found it MUCH better than subsystems.
