Haha, as soon as I saw Collin had posted on this thread I knew he would make a rational assessment along with the invocation of an academic discipline ;)

I like that hypothesis Collin! I came across it at Uni !!! In economics! LMAO, one of the first principles I learnt!

Great case study/example.

I can't complain either :(

4 minutes by foot

do you live on campus Edmund? :D
Quite close :P

I wake up at 7am, then go back to sleep till 7.30am, get up and get dressed for uni, I would be ready at around 7.50am, somehow I've lost 5 minutes somewhere, then I would leave my apartment at 7.55am, walk to Copland theater. I should arrive at 8.04am but if I don't walk to the lights on time, I would have to wait about 2 minutes before I can cross the road which would make me around 3-4 minutes behind. I'm usually seated at Copland at about 8.06-8.09am. You can ask username, out of the 20 lectures, I was early for just 1 :)

About 45minutes-1.25hours driving.  Traffic on Burke Rd (Camberwell) is very unpredictable, especially the risk of being stuck behind a tram!

yeah i think theres a relationship between the distance from uni and the time u get to uni

the further away = the earlier you get to uni
the closer = the later you are

lol thats just my random hypothesis

True! One reason might be because the longer you need (on average), the more variation in the time required (makes a lot of sense -- more random influences involved in a longer journey).

Since most people aren't aiming to be on time merely "on average", they will come slightly earlier (on average) because they need to compensate for the unknown variation!

People studying finance, this is an analogy to the risk-return principle.

I was late to almost every Jap lect this semester... and I daresay I fit into Revel's "some people" when he says:

I definately can't complain after hearing stories of where some people come from.

Jap lecturer was also my tutor... and the unit coordinator... I'm surprised she was still nice to me given my continual and very predictable lateness.

It's true. I usually have to walk so fast to Copland that my thighs burn but Edmund just breezes in all jolly in the morning.

Back at ANU, about 7 mins walk (though it's always because I bump into friends along the way etc.). Don't think I've ever been early for class. Probably because I don't go to class very often...

To get to a 10 am lecture:

8.30 am - leave the house, drive to station
8.40 am - park car, walk to station
8.50 am - train departs
9.30-9.40 am - arrive at North Melbourne, hop on 401 bus
9.40-9.50 am - arrive at uni, walk to maths building

I usually keep 15 minutes aside to walk into uni, although really it's probably closer to 10, depending on where I'm going.

For a 10AM lecture:

07:00 Wake Up
07:05 Wake Up
07:10 Wake Up
...
07:30 Wake Up
08:30 Drive to tennis courts
08:35 Walk from tennis courts to station
08:45 Arrive at station, catch next limited express train
...
09:35 Arrive at MC
09:50 Arrive at uni

roughly.  But sometimes I'm late.
