The Yr 7s at my school apparently started a petition to ban my muck up day.
Didn't happen though

Brats!
It reminds me (sort of irrelevant, but still) of how a survey was done on whether our school should get rid of uniform (this was before year 9, at Brunswick Secondary College). The year 7s overwhelmingly agreed, while the year 12s tended to disagree.
The argument was that the year 12s realised that the 'game' of buying new clothes and keeping up with the latest fashion at school to look cool was ridiculous. They understood that and the younger kids didn't. It's an interesting thing though... it's sort of like an arms race. There's a similar situation with some sport, where helmets are mandatory. The argument is that if it was optional to wear helmets ("Hey, it's your safety!"), then people would choose not to wear them, in order to remain competitive. This was because helmets actually also impaired your peripheral vision. The destructive race actually made it socially efficient for them to spontaneously agree to make helmets mandatory for everyone in the league, so that the competitive nature of sport would not result in such self-sacrifice.
