yeah it hit australia, it hit in most parts of the world actually...they aren't really hyping it , i probably am lol. cyclones only happen in the tropics, they can't sustain all the way down to Victoria, its too cold, and the latitude of it as well.
oh damn...what about a proper earth quake...not like that pussy one that happened earlier this year..that would be mad!

SUMMARY:

A tsunami was generated by an undersea earthquake of magnitude 7.9 (Latitude
45.960S Longitude 166.470E ) that occurred at 07:22 PM EST on Wednesday 15
July 2009 near OFF W. COAST OF S. ISLAND, N.Z..

The main tsunami waves have now passed all expected Australian locations.

Small unusual waves may continue but are NOT now expected to be damaging.

Tsunami warnings for VICTORIA are therefore CANCELLED.

No updates or further warnings will be issued unless the situation changes.

Your local emergency management authority will advise the All Clear when it's
safe to return to coastal areas.

The VICTORIAN STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE advises people near the coast or coastal
waterways from Lakes Entrance to Gabo Island to be aware that although the
main tsunami threat has passed, small unusual waves and currents and abnormal
tides may still affect some beaches, harbours and coastal waterways for many
hours or even days.

Call 1300 TSUNAMI (1300 878 6264) or visit www.bom.gov.au

FOR EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE:
