A NEIGHBOUR of convicted pedophile Dennis Ferguson says he deserves a fair chance following a New South Wales politician's bid to have him removed from his Sydney home.

Ferguson, 61-year-old, who has previously been run out of communities in Queensland because of his past convictions for child sex offences, has been living in public housing in the Ryde area of northwestern Sydney for the past two weeks.

NSW Housing Minister David Borger yesterday said he did not feel comfortable with Mr Ferguson living in the suburb and would attempt to have him removed.

He said the location met strict guidelines, including a requirement to be at least 400m away from any school, but he did not feel comfortable with it.

This is someone who was in jail for over 14 years for kidnapping and sexually assaulting three children and he only needs to be 400m away from a school?!

you said it yourself,  hes copped his punishment and been in jail for over 14 years...
he hasn't committed another crime since his jail time...
hes probably learnt his lesson and people should give him a second chance.
i wouldnt be committing the same crime again if it had already cost me 14 years of my life .

he originally got caught when there was no media attention around.. so he probably wont do it again even if he's out of media attention

He probably will. Even though he might have had his 'punishment', has that 'changed' him? Unless he is a changed man, I see no reason why he won't offend again, and jail doesn't really have a reputation for bringing out the best in people.

people like that don't change, lock him up forever. he doesnt bring any value by coming out of jail therfore he shouldnt come out at all
