By languagey I meant English language-based, e.g. humanities subjects, as opposed to numbers-based like sciences and maths etc.

Nick: I did 2 law subjects, French and international studies. I took my laptop to everything except French classes for the reasons above, and international studies tutes (because they were useless and there were no notes to take, lol).

Why were the int studies tutes useless??

Well semester 1 is actually a history of the 20th century rather than current international studies, which is incredibly boring and practically nobody does the reading so nobody knows the answers to any of the tute questions, plus I had a crappy tutor who didn't teach us anything.

Then in semester 2 you learn interesting stuff about globalisation and a lot of the tutes just ended up becoming debates over some issue to do with feminism or multinational corporations or the UN, which were really fun but ultimately useless if you wanted to learn stuff to do with the course.

yay for int studies :P

Brilliant idea- do many people take laptops into lectures and tutes?

yes for law subjects, don't see it happen that much for others.
