I emailed them about it but the response wasn't very helpful. What if they don't have my majors either gah
Yeah, they haven't been terribly helpful for me either..
Hi,
I did a bit better than I thought I was going to do and now have an enter high enough to get into the Bachelor of Commerce course at Clayton (if next year's clearly-in stays somewhat close to this year's). I was planning on doing the Bachelor of Business at Caulfield, which only has six compulsory first-year units. Both courses have eight open electives, which I was planning to use to take up a language. I would have liked to use these electives in the first year, so that I could complete as many language units as possible. In the Commerce course at Clayton, however, there are eight compulsory first-year units. With there only being eight units completed each year, there wouldn't be enough space for this to happen. Is there anyway to start doing a language in the first year?
On a related note, how does the Arts/Commerce double degree work? I think the electives component from the Commerce degree is taken out, but there are still eight compulsory first-year units. Add to this a major, a minor, and a separate first-year sequence from the Arts faculty; how would one go about completing the course? Would you be able to study units denoted with a '1' at the front (eg, BTC1110) in the second year? If so, would this be possible to do in a single degree?
Thanks for any help,
Robert
Hello Robert,
Thank you for your enquiry. I can only comment on the commerce side of the arts/commerce double degree. Within the commerce component there is only room for 1 x specialisation and this must be from the Bus Eco faculty. You could possibly do a diploma of languages from the Arts faculty. The diploma of languages is considered separate from your degree. However you will need to contact the Arts faculty for more information.
Thank you,
Matthew

Note: I sent my email on 18/12/2008 (I wanted to get an answer before the end of the change of preference period), but I didn't get a reply until 22/01/2009 (after round 1 offers)! xD
Have you tried contacting your
exchange adviser? I've found that calling them is much more helpful. Since you're not limited to one message, you can stay on the phone and get transferred enough times until you get put through to someone who can give you a proper answer. Maybe you can make an appointment to see someone in person?
