Windows Live Messenger crashing
« on: January 12, 2010, 11:03:55 pm »

Hey guys,

Recently my windows live messenger keeps freezing at random times.

Sometimes it'd work for ages and freeze after like 2 hours, but sometimes it'd freeze every 5 mins. By freeze I mean it doesn't respond and when I go to task manager it says "not responding"

I have reinstalled it like 10 times, I go to add/remove programs and delete the whole from there. However every time I reinstall it, it still has my login details/dp and stuff when the MSN interface pops up, shouldn't all that be gone if I deleted it? Is this the right way to delete it? Or can I fully remove it using some other methods?

How do I fix this? [I don't wanna use Ebuddy]

Thanks :)

Maybe cut down on the nudges and 40 keystrokes per second.

There's a folder remaining on your C drive called Windows Live or something like that. Even though you've uninstalled the program, your details will probably still remain in that folder...

My uncle's laptop had similar problems like this, I think it's most likely Messenger wasn't compatible with his pirated Windows :P

Maybe you could try install an older version if it still works?

I'm using windows xp home edition, I've tried download older version like 7.5 but everytime I get on it says "you must update in order to use this msn" or some shit like that and once I update it updates to Windows Live Messenger again.

What should I do?

Yeh I don't think they allow older versions... The only thing I can think of is ebuddy or reformatting (which I wouldn't waste my time on) or maybe System Restore?

If you are using XP, it should be under Accessories. I haven't used this before, but you can bring your system back to a 'Restore Point', say a few months back, when it still worked. Good to use when viruses do funny stuff to your system

That's awesome, would I lose any installed programs/data that I've installed over the month? Or are they still kept?
