what should i expect if i do finance 1 and do you think ill be disadvantaged in anyway based on the vce subjects i have done?
Definitely not!
I had not done any business like subjects before in VCE and I managed to pull off a 70

You get to learn interesting stuff. Share market, bond market, money market, payment systems, equity, foreign exchange market and interest rate shit. I think my faves were the share market and the foreign exchange.
Expect 2 lectures per week. If for some reason you can't go to a lecture or two, don't fear: they have audio recordings on LMS you can listen to later! They also have printed slides that you can download and bring to the lectures to write notes on.
Tutorials are not compulsory to go to but the tutors are very useful if your unsure of any concepts.
Two assignments...if they are basing their assignments on the same topics as last year, then the first one will be easy (something about car finance) and the second one will be a bit confusing (bond markets)
Textbook reading! Not compulsory but I think its very useful as an additional supplement to the lecture slides (the lecture slides are somewhat brief in nature)
Oh yeah!
This:
http://tlu.ecom.unimelb.edu.au/students/undergraduate/PASSoverview.htmlThe Finance PASS program. I participated in this program. Its basically like a normal tutorial except in a more relaxed manner. The tutor makes up their own questions relevant to the lectures and goes through them. I found it very very very very useful and I recommend it.
Overall, if you know the basic concepts of what they teach in Finance 1, you'll do fine. Very very very interesting (sometimes I found it hard though because I got behind in the readings and tute sheets...but that was my fault

)
