Philosophical Sayings

What are your thoughts on the following sayings?

1.                     "Time is trust." This means for trust to develop time needs to elapse; you can't trust quickly [ ie 1 - 5months ].
2.                     "Everything happens for a reason"
3.                     "Destiny is present, your life has been written for you."
4.                     "Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end."

Personally I agree with 1, 2 and sorta with 3. My friends beg to differ :knuppel2:

EDIT: Saying "1" changed to make it more clearer.

I like 2 and 4.

2. Because I kinda do believe that everything does happen for a reason and that you are supposed to learn from all your experiences in life.

4. Because it is true.  You really shouldn't stress or bother about things.  Eventually things will take a turn for the better.  I should apply this saying to VCE haha!

I'm with kyzoo on 1, what does it mean?

I disagree with 3.  The only person in control of destiny is yourself.  You write your own story.

I have a feeling "Time is trust" is meant to imply that time leads to friendships and loyalty between individuals.  I'd mostly agree with that concept.

Heavily agree with number 2 and 3.  Unfortunately, it's very difficult to argue that humans actually have free will; when you consider that everything in the universe (by the laws of physics) is causally connected, then it'd seem that our lives are essentially ruled by the molecules governing nature.  How do you justify that you can control your own destiny in such circumstances?

And also disagree with 4.  Not everything ends happily; that's just a Hollywood fairytale.

I disagree with 4 because it implies that everything will be fine if you just passively go with the flow. However there are times when you need to "break the flow" and instate a new one.

In that case, I agree with 1 also.  It is pretty hard to trust someone until you get to know them well enough.

hehehehe, unless of course a guy falls in love with a girl at first sight which is where this whole debate began with my mates;; whether girl or guy you have to have time elapse before you trust anyone completely.

That is more attraction than trust though. :P  It doesn't mean you trust them.
But I guess you could argue that for true love to exist, then so must trust.

Anyway, I'm sure we can discuss it when I finally get into Monash by 2013 haha!

Weird, I'd always interpreted 4) as a semi-humorous saying, the "end" being death. Obviously everything's okay when you die because you won't know any better...
