over9000 questions thread

Ok first question I have is find the image when y= + 2 is translated 5 units in the negative direction of the x-axis and 1 unit in the positive direction of the y-axis then dilated by factor of 2 from the y-axis.
I started by listing the sequence of transformations (x,y) to (x-5, y+1) to (2x-10, y+1).
then x`= 2x-10      y`= y+1
x= and      y= y`-1
then sub into original equation. Is that right so far, sorry I have to ask because its an assignment and I dont know if it is right.

so the new rule would be y= +3, if you subbed everything in?

to list an appropriate sequence of transformations that map f(x) = to g(x) =
first make g(x) look like f(x) right and sub y= g(x)
so g(x) becomes
is that right so far?

yes thats perfect, although if the question says "list" the transformations, i'd write it out in words like this:

1. translation by 5 units to the negative direction of x axis
2. dilation of factor from the y axis
3. dilation of factor 2 from x axis
4. translation by 7 units in the negative direction of y axis.
