In the context of the match, he did save our ass.. but he is no Chris Rogers (He started late, but his career was ended due to injuries.

(Image removed from quote.)

Seems an odd comparison. Why the Rogers reference?

Chris Rogers was old (like Shaun Marsh) and was a very decent cricketer (hence the comparison).

He achieved more than what Shaun Marsh did, in less innings.

'Fewer' innings, please! ;P I am personally a big fan of Chris Rogers, but I can see that Shaun Marsh has had some rough treatment by Cricket Australia, likewise Glenn Maxwell and Pete Handscomb, who should have been on the Test stage ages ago. Mitch Marsh I respect as a cricketer, but he just doesn't have the numbers to be an obvious selection now, while Maxi, with his recent numbers, should have been the obvious selection.

Sure - so did a number of other cricketers. I'd definitely prefer SMarsh in the current test team, though!

Another double for Rohit Sharma?!?! What on earth? Sri Lanka got to be feeling bad, after destroying India in the first ODI, and now this loss!

Any predictions for the WACA Test? I'm just hoping that Handscomb still gets the nod and Smudge bowls himself. Backing Smith to get another ton, maybe one for Warner. And a five-fer for Cummins.

Awesome comeback for Australia, after not a great 1st day! Hopefully Smith can get that 21st ton! Can Australia manage a win after conceding 403?

Magnificent century for Steven Smith, the 3rd fastest batsman of all time to make 22 Test tons. And given that he played his first 10 or so Tests as a bowling allrounder way down the order, this is a feat that puts him far ahead of all the current good batsmen to make him one of the greatest of all time.

probably the only thing holding smith back from being an all time great is the quality of bowlers and the abundance of flat pitches in this era.

I don't think that even that is holding him back. I would say that he would already be fitting into my all-time great XI. His numbers are not only great, but phenomenal. That century against India in Pune earlier this year was one of the greatest knocks of all time, imo.

Smith made a double ton on the same wicket, against the same bowlers, but obviously his batting was a lot better and will get a lot more praise just because it's Smith right?

Why can't respect be given where it's due? I understand that his selection was controversial and you may not of agreed with, but he batted well and deserves praise.

I would say that YES it was a good knock, but I personally would not have picked M Marsh. His bowling has not been up to scratch for someone who was picked as an allrounder over the far superior batting of Glenn Maxwell. He was batting well, but on a good batting pitch, against tired, discouraged and not very fast bowlers. Steve Smith's knock, and his incredible numbers in the past 4 years have my great respect, as does the length of Marsh's knock, but personally I would have backed Handscomb to score even more on this pitch, as he got the sack after bad scores on harder pitches. But now, Marsh will probably continue to get selected  :'( over him. Loved that ball from Starc to get out Vince.   ;D

Smith second on the list of highest Test ranking numbers, tied with Len Hutton and just behind THE DON! This proves his incredible position as one of the greatest of all time. What a batsman! Pure class!
