Prediction: whoever bats first will lose

"their bowling seems weaker than normal" - why is everyone saying this? LOL!

Because India's bowlers are either injured or have never played in Australia before

Seems unlikely from the way Ponting and Cowan are playing ATM......they might just pull it off  :)

^ this

The bowlers who previously caused trouble for our batsmen have been suffering from various injuries as of late.

The other bowlers are relatively inexperienced and that is why I believe the bowling line-up is weaker than normal.

Why oh why do the Indians refuse to play with DRS?? Hopefully Sehwag and Laxman (not Tendulkar, I want him to make his 100 centuries) cop similar dismissals as Cower and Hussey did, then maybe India will agree to use such a system.

Again why is everyone blatantly criticizing the Indian bowlers for their "lack" of experience? Rather I think it should be more like this - perhaps consider being more encouraging . Who knows maybe the likes of Umesh Yadav can be one of the greatest bowlers of all time in the making. After all all bowlers started off "inexperienced".

The latter is just a pathetic excuse which would only be used in the case India fails to take 20 wickets in an innings. However, in saying this the new Indian bowing unit is very capable and in hindsight from today's match not only have they enjoyed these "foreign" conditions but have flourished !

Oh and with the BCCI's decision to eradicate the utilization of the DRS in matches played by India whilst supporting its use in others series rather subtly hints at the fact that the BCCI want to drag in larger crowds by encouraging more fierce competition between nations. This is, however, a rather clever move by them since they are aware that the complete reliance on old fashioned umpiring can indeed have its share of dubious decisions.

Yes maybe they will be some of the greatest bowlers ever, in the future, but they aren't at that stage now...

Shane Warne was one of the best bowlers ever and he got slapped around the park in his first few tests, which is what I'm suggesting may happen to the Indian bowlers (not just restricted to India either, potential for ours too).

Additionally, I personally wasn't saying that these inexperienced bowlers are bad, because they're not, as shown by Yadav taking 3 wickets. But they are not as good as some of the other Indian bowlers Australia has faced recently.

After watching today's play, it was obvious that, despite taking wickets, Zaheer Khan isn't fully fit and bowling at the standard he usually would. He was struggling for pace (up until he dismissed Clarke) and bowling more "bad" balls than you would expect from a bowler of his calibre.  The same can be said for Sharma.

I'm not saying that the Indian bowling line-up is poor - it isn't. I just believe that it's not as good as it has been in the past. I still rate them as a high chance of beating Australia, just not as highly as if they had a fully fit list.

Similarly, Australia's team is not as good as it has been in the past, so the rest of the test (and series) will be interesting to watch and see who comes out on top.

India bowled like fucking poo. I was there (and I support India) and I am sorry but anyone who defends india's bowling is under some strange illusion. Firstly, NO consistency in any of the bowlers. Ashwin doesn't look threatening at ALL. Ishant bowled some good overs, otherwise he was too short! Umesh yadav is the biggest stooge of a bowler since mitch johnson. All of his wickets except ponting where luck. He bowled terribly. Zaheer, bowled quite well first spell, otherwise he too was trash.

Only thanks to lucky decisions, cowan batting so slowly, and a weakened australian lineup, do we see india in quite a balanced position.
