L's logbook help!
« on: November 21, 2010, 11:54:26 am »

My driving test for P's is next month and yesterday i pulled out my logbook, i realised i've recorded the damn TRIP READING not the odometer.
so instead of having 134000 to 134050, i've had 23 to 73 etc
i hit 140 hours a year ago and stopped recording ever since but now i'm screwed... can't get another 120 hours in time for the test.
What should i do? I was thinking of calling up vicroads and seeing what i should do. I dont wanna rock up on the day of my test and they dont let me sit the driving because my logbook didn't pass.

thanks

definitely call them, you'd want to have that sorted out so the only thing you have to worry about is the driving part.

It's best to let them know prior to the test, they'll probably understand (the book isn't all that good in explaining some parts).

I had to buy another book cos I misread it and didn't add the total night time into the total driving time so yea there was like 30hrs difference in the end.

Since you recorded the trip reading and it's thus still a record of how many kilometres you travelled, they may well be fine with it. But yeah, speak to them now. Also make sure your car is okay for the drive test, I had to book an RACV car for it :(

like on the left you would usually write the total time (eg. 140 hrs), then on the right if you didn't drive during the night you would write 0, then the total night time (eg. 30hrs). Instead of adding it together (eg. 170 hrs) I left them both separate so in the end the Total Driving Time was short 30 hrs

Basically, when you drive at night it has to be added to night driving and to total driving, not just to night. I did that as well the first few times.

Ahh i hope vicroads are human beings and not relentless like vcaa. How would i call them up? As in who do i ask to speak to? "the guy who sorts out logbook problems?"

Call them, sit through 10 minutes of menus, get a human operator.

The option you want is "drive test queries" but it's still a huge wait, especially since everyone has booked them in the lead up to Christmas

Mm i just sent an enquiry through their website. If i don't get a reply within the next few days ill call them up. Maybe i could just rock up to my test, play dumb and maybe they'll let it slide since the hours are all legit? From other people who have got their Ps, they said they just flick the book and don't really care since they go through hundreds of them each week and just cant be bothered checking properly.

How much extra do you think it's necessary to have?
I was hoping that if I had done like, 135 hours? before my test then this would be enough to make sure I would have enough even if they cut stuff out.
But how many entries can you expect they won't accept?

same, I lost a lot of hours but had enough to not worry about fixing it when I realised.

Since so many have made this mistake they should explicitly write down not to do it.

Ok so vicroads emailed me back and all they said was this
"incomplete or incorrect logbook results in a loss of booking/test fees AND cannot rebook the probationary test for a further 6 weeks"
So i just ordered a new logbook cos these guys are complete fags and i can just see myself getting screwed over on test day. Wondering if anyone knows how long the replacement logbook takes to come to your house? If it takes weeks... i'm gonna go ram my car through every vicroads office's front door -_-
