This is just like Microsoft in the late 90s. A massive conglomerate holding supreme monopoly over everything in the market.
The only way to curb Facebook's pernicious influence is via a Supreme court ruling, and even then, some people have their lives so ingrained in the website, they they won't pull out.

Reminds me of Maccas taking legal action against a humble Scottish guy who opened a cafe called Mac Muffin

"one out of 14 people have a facebook account"

That figure is soon to rise..I don't even have facebook, or at least, yet.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

If I was to make one, I'm going to have to learn to restrict myself onto it. With us it was the opposite, my friends are making one now so we don't loose touch. ( And this is the reason why I would consider it, for my friends who I know would be hard to trace).

Is that in the whole world, or just out of people who have internet connections?

Also, if they decide in an American court that facebook is allowed to trademark 'face', then in a foreign country will 'face' also be trademarked, or only in America?

From my vague knowledge of how far Facebook has spread across the globe, and a brief glance at trademarks on wikipedia, it would be enforcable in all countries where facebook is present.

Why/how could you trademark the word face? Isn't it a bit too.... common?

Soon they'll be trademarking letters, and you will have to pay them to talk :D
