This bastard has served me well. 3 years old, I can't think of one achievement I got without it.

So anyways. That's that. Feel free to suggest how I should spend the next $2000.

I'm looking at the ASUS EeePad EP121 closely.

M1530?

I'm contemplating replacing mine (also the M1530) and I've seen a couple of really nice laptops for sub $2000.

The ASUS N61JQ-ZBD-JX025V is a pretty decent deal as is the LENOVO Y560. Only thing that irks me is the resolution but it's almost impossible to get above that without going up in price substantially. Don't buy the new XPS series from Dell unless you want to wait until mid January at the earliest, they've had some hilariously terrible stuff ups

I'm a bit apprehensive about buying another windows laptop. The battery life has been crap, I had a ~2hr life for my 1530 for the first half a year, then down to 1 hr in the second half, then ~half hr for the next two years, it's essentially a computer that can hop between power points. In my experience the portability of most windows laptop eventually end up being 'easily shifted from one end of the desk to the other'.

I like the idea of tablets, that is, full OS installed on a device that lasts the day like the iPad. I am seriously considering the MacBook Air (~$2k) to service me for 2 years, or an iPad (~$700) to service me for 1 year until good tablets (ChromeOS tablets?) come out. Are there any other super-battery-life devices around?

If you're worried about the battery dying out, couldn't you just buy a cheap replacement from MSI or over the net or something?

I don't care about portability much but if you need something with a long battery life, then a MBP is a pretty good deal. I really dislike the macbook air.

I got me an Acer Aspire 1, about ~$500 from JB Hifi
I get about 7 hours out of it and it's about 4 months old

But my sister's got a MBP, and she gets about 5hrs and it's 1 year old...

How come? the air is really light and slick. The pro has a pretty decent weight to it.

If you aren't a gamer, are alienware good for graphics/media or not necessary?
