What game are you most looking forward to next year?

CS GO will flop, no doubt about it lol. 1.6 is the perfect competitive FPS game, Source is an inferior 1.6 and now CS:GO is going to be like COD.

You mean the Source engine? I'd be surprised if Valve pull away from that engine anytime soon really. It's a good system, just cumulatively update that same engine instead of having to start from scratch every time. It also has the added benefit of the older games running on the engine benefiting from the new updates (i.e. the massive HL2 upgrade that happened last year).

I had someone email me this explanation. I don't know where they got it from though:

So I finally figured it out. Episode 3 is taking forever to make because of Gabe’s density. You see, the denser the object means a higher mass. A large mass equates to a large gravitational field. The closer you are to a gravitational field, the more time slows down to outside observers.

In other words, people who work at Valve are near such a large mass (Gabe), it’s slowing down time for them. To them, it seems like time is going the same speed. To us (outside observers), it seems like they are moving in slow motion.

This also explains Valve time. They make time predictions of releases for certain items when they are AWAY from Gabe. When they go back near Gabe, they work end up working at a slower pace relative to outside observers.

Based on the predicted release and actual release, we can determine the mass of Gabe during that time period.

Using the variables Pr for predicted release and Ar for actual release and using the predicted release of Ep. 3 being on Christmas of 2007 (Tuesday, the 25th of December) and the current date is Sunday, 21st of November 2010, that is a difference of 1,063 days. Because Ep. 3 was announced around May 24, 2006, it should have taken only 580 days to complete the entire Half-Life 2 trilogy.

In other words, 580 days is equivalent to at least 1063 days to Valve.

It's poking fun at Gabe Newell's weight. Something like that because he's so large, in Valve's reference frame they are working at a normal speed, but due to the effects of relativity (general relativity?) it appears to us that they are working slower.

So from what I understood of it, Valve isn't procrastinating according to that.

I'm not too sure - CS2 is coming out pretty soon (or is intended to come out soon anyway :/)

Also do remember that it's not actually Half Life 3 we're waiting for, it's Half Life 2 Episode 3

Do remember that Valve designed the Source engine so that they can just keep continually updating it. In my opinion, it's by no means out of date (it looked pretty damn good in Portal 2).

Either way, if it turns out that I'm right or if it turns out that you're right, it'd be a new Half Life game. I don't care what engine it runs on. (I'm not overly fussed about the new counter strike.)

Bought Arkham City, installing it now, exams won't matter if I get a med/honours offer, FML
