I have a DELL Vostro 1510 which I find very good.
The best for year 12 would be the MacBook Pro though.

That's a personal preference -->

I found it really fast and also light, easy to carry around and reading off the screen (which one would have to do a lot in year 12) is a lot easier and less tiring.

MacBook Pro is the best notebook for ANYONE! I'm so getting an apple laptop once I get a decent job.

For now I'm pretty stoked with my iPad.

MBPs are very good for students. What are you going to be using it for? It could be kinda expensive if you don't really need a particularly powerful one. Especially with the Christmas sales there are some decent study laptops for $600 or so

Asus have some nice, sleek design laptops, from experience they are very reliable. Toshiba are very good as well, we've got a laptop that's like 7-8 years old with like 2.6ghz pentnium 4 and 512mb ram which still works perfectly fine.
Im not too sure with Macs tho but from what i gather they seem to be very good laptops for students - specifically students who study arts/media

Well if you're looking for something cheap and solid, Officeworks or JB are probably a decent bet. No need to go to a specialized store.

Get something like this (that seems to be a pretty damn good deal actually, someone tell me if I missed something there...the graphics card is way above what I'd expect in a budget notebook)

Crickey! That's a pretty good deal. Altho from the picture it looks like the laptop would be quite thick and possibly heavy...

+1 That is a nice laptop. Very surprised at the low price. Would definitely run most games.

Oh the graphics card isn't that strong, it won't run many modern games but it's solid enough to play recent ones
