Hi all we've just posed some free UMAT advice, and we will be making free UMAT YouTube videos soon. We are sick of big companies exploiting students lol... don't get us wrong some of them are good :) hope you enjoy though... stay tuned for free videos.

Nice, although, I disagree on your take about speed reading - it almost definitely increases retention, whist when you read slowly you reach the end of a paragraph thinking: "What did I just read? Zzz"

you should read it slowly, carefully - like reading something really exciting, read it as though your listening to a friend tell you a detailed story, listen carefully and let the words pass in through one ear and out other. you will retain best if you do this, and then when you get to the questions, don't go back and read over the passage, think carefully about each question, you shouldn't have to go back unless you HAVE to and KNOW where the info is.
i didn't do as well as i wanted because i got stressed and kept reading the passage LOL bad choice, everyone has time to finish the entire section on time; just don't go back as much.

Each to their own I guess, I've noticed a significant decrease (5-10min+) in the time it takes me to complete a drill on medentry, whilst an increase on my scores. I also speed read my novel Maestro in around 4 sessions before bed over 4 days (45min-1hr+ each session~). That was when I was fairly new to the concept as well. (the novel was quite short though, 150~ pages)

Mmm... I think that "speed thinking" is required, and with speed thinking you can progress through the information fast. I suppose simply reading it fast does not necessarily mean it will be retained, especially when you are nervous. Also another thing is that speed reading should be trained in advanced, it takes a while till you can perfect it... you don't want to experiment on the UMAT. I guess it depends on your personal preference if it works for you - thats great too ;)

Nice post AcademyPlus. I was just wondering if you could recommend some good book titles that I can buy over Amazon- I really have no idea which ones to get.

Thanks in advanced.

Hey I guess you could get the logical reasoning bible I think / sometimes though these books are available for free as PDF files on the web - I know that some students have been successful in finding resources that way. I have actually seen the large companies use EXACTLY the same questions- and then they resell these "umatproducts" for an overly inflated price. Makes me sick, so unethical ... People should be more aware that they plagiarize international sources. And each other too LOL
