How much are we expected to know for the exams?

just remember that carbon dioxide enters the stroma of the chloroplast and is attached to ribulose bisphosphate which is a 5-carbon molecule which is catalyzed by the enzyme ribusco. This creates a 6 carbon unstable molecule which is then split into two 3 carbon molecules. ATP produced from the light dependent stage prove the engergy to drive this stage and the NADPH produce in the light dependent stage is used to convert 3 carbon into phosphoglyceraldehyde. This then may be used to produce sugar molecules like starch etc etc.

For photosynthesis/cellular respiration, you only need to know the inputs/outputs for each stage of them pretty much, but not the individual reactions within each stage. So yes, you won't need to know the steps WITHIN the Calvin Cycle.

According to VCAA:

Quote from: VCAA
The main stages and their names (Calvin, Kreb’s) are required for photosynthesis and cellular respiration. No details of the biochemical pathways are required; however, the inputs and outputs of each should be known in general terms.

The role of the ATP/ADP cycle in biochemical pathways is required.

We dont have to learn the whole calvin cycle to deatil....just where they occur!
My teacher taught me a great way to remeber where photosyntheisis occur.
it occurs in the grana then the stroma. Which u can remeber as : 'g' comes before 's'.
HOPES this helps you :)

No you don't need to memorise all the steps to the Calvin cycle...and you should note that what you have is just a fraction of all the steps to the Calvin cycle. Last year our teacher gave us a handout with a more steps involved, the circle that's probably depicted in your book gets a lot bigger.
