Yes I think you do,

Roger also remarked that he and only he would be reading the assessment,

EDIT: None of my responses are over 400 (one is exactly though),

that seems strange, so a word count is done and if >400 then only 200 words are read? Or we can get even weirder, eg I write 10,000 words and they read 5,000  ;D

Anyways, Roger doesnt seem like the type to do word counts upon reading every response,

What did you propose for future climate change policies? I said global carbon tax..

Uhh... I can't explain it any clearer but if you go over the word limit significantly (in this case 400 instead of 200) you're bound to lose marks in some way (This is also the case for all uni assignments). Someone asked Roger during the tutes about this and he said it's obvious when someone has overwritten. He said he didn't want to read a long answer where he had to pick out the answers in a slab of irrelevant text...

Yes, that. The exact point at which you will lose marks varies, but if you've doubled the set word count I wouldn't be submitting it.

Relevance doesn't matter if the person marking it doesn't like the word count (ask username, she lost a mark for being 20words over)

From this subject? Roger (only person marking it) said the opposite.

Hey guys, hope some of you still use this forum, but I'm considering taking this subject sem 2 this year. Did any of you guys get unexpectedly lower grades then what you were after? ie did you put a lot of effort in, hoping for a 75+ grade, and only got a 65ish or something?

cheers!

Yes, only got a 69 (H3) and was hoping at least for a H2A. Ironically, the worst mark I've received at uni for a subject other than Accelerated Maths...

Got a H1 but can't remember the mark.. Probably around 80-82. Make sure you go to the tutes to have some of your answers looked at

Hey John, that's still a good mark to me lol, but yeah I'd want to hopefully get close to a H2A or H1 if it doesn't take that much effort!

Are the written responses marked harshly?

And would you say that reading over the textbook by Roger Sands would be a good idea?

Even though this sounds like an "easy" H1, essay based assessments are very subjective...

I suspect there's some sort of bell-curve used for Forests - it's not exactly a back-breaking subject, but it's not as easy to do well in as it may seem. Roger does seem to be quite harsh on the written responses. And the textbook is quite similar to the lecture slides. I borrowed off a friend who had done the subject previously, but I wouldn't recommend going to the expense of paying for it

All in all, the main things the subject's good for is lightening your semesterly load, providing the uni with thousands of dollars, and of course learning about forests if that's your thing :p
