Creative Response to Text - The Death of Napoleon

I'm having some trouble understanding the concept of "capturing" the voice of characters and "utilising the style of the writer". How exactly can I do this?

Also, if anyone has read the text The Death of Napoleon, what was your interpretation of the text?

Thanks :)

Follow the style of the writer.  Do they use long sentences?  Short sentences?  Lots of metaphors?  Lots of plain descriptions?  Is anything strange about their writing style (eg. lack of punctuation, lots of hyphens/dashes, etc.)?
