Does anyone know of good places/websites to buy secondhand textbooks? I remember reading it somewhere in the forums, but can't seem to find it now....
Pls do not send me a pm about Aspire applications. The process has vastly changed since I applied.

One of my subjects doesn't even have enough tutorials open to cover enrollment. Great.

Sounds like some mismanagement on the side of IT. How do they not know how many classes are appropriate for a particular subject? I doubt there is sudden surge of enrolments close to class registration day....

If you don't know many people, camp's a good way to meet some. Though some people I know felt a bit confronted by all the alcohol and "frivolity".

So for all my subjects "You will be advised of prescribed texts by your lecturer." So I just wait till my first lecture to know what I need? Also, if the census date for subjects is late march do we have time to switch subjects after uni starts?

Yeah, you'll find out in the first lecture, or possibly on LMS when you get access to that. For a lot of subjects the textbook is not really essential (have a look at the subject reviews thread here to get an idea about that).

You can drop subjects up until the census date, but only add subjects in the first two weeks of semester. I know of some people who go 'subject shopping', attending lectures for several units in the first week before deciding what they actually want to do.

Actually, all of the timetabling is done before anybody chooses their subjects, usually based on the number of students taking the subject in the previous year. It's not uncommon for the class timetabling to be a bit off. I've had lectures that have had to be moved to larger venues and extra tutorials put on because the subject was more popular than usual. Others where tutorial timeslots were cancelled because enrolments were down.

So like going to lectures without actually enrolling in the subject?

Yep. It's not officially allowed but generally nobody will mind unless the lecture theatre is absolutely packed.

1. Read the handbook for textbooks, look at the subject reviews for whether they're actually worth it, and any equipment ie microscope slides they'll tell you to buy when you begin.

2. I don't think there is a diary, and if there is, I've never used it.

3. From what I remember you're supposed to get your ID when you take your photo? Go to the MDHS student centre to pick it up.

4. Yes, although a monthly myki pass might be cheaper if you plan onn going to uni almost everyday.
