Is OB really as bad as they say it is?
Depends on your group for the assignment and your own affinity towards psychology and sociology. For most actuarial studies students OB only ever brings up bitter memories.

Considering doing Organisational Behaviour in Sem 2 instead of Intro to Actuarial Studies (because apparently it isn't compulsory and is boring).
I wouldn't recommend skipping Intro to Actuarial Studies. It is an overview of the content studied in later years, and if you are convinced that it would be boring without having done the subject, just keep in mind that the senior actuarial subjects are almost all extensions of each topic in Intro to Actuarial Studies. It wouldn't make sense to steer away from this opportunity unless you already plan to change majors away from actuarial studies. While it's certainly not a prerequisite for anything, the vast majority of the actuarial studies cohort will have done Intro to Actuarial Studies when they study the later actuarial subjects, so you'd fall behind in a sense as well.

Intro to Actuarial Studies is a very good edge to have for Financial Mathematics I (lots of common content there, as FM1 is not too much of an extension) and also for the first few weeks of Actuarial Modelling I.

I feel like I must be doing third year of Biomedicine wrong. The content seems manageable and I actually have spare time to relax. Perhaps I've finally got my study techniques figured out. I can't help but feel guilty though. Maybe just because it's the end of week 2? :S

I want to double major Actuarial with Finance though. Is there any possible way to do this whilst still attaining Actuarial accreditation, even if it may mean skipping some non-compulsory subjects which might enhance your learning (like intro to actuarial as you mentioned)?

1st Year Semester 2
* AM2

2nd Year Semester 1
* Probability
* Organisational Behaviour
* FM1
* Business Finance (possibly in summer)

2nd Year Semester 2
* Statistics
* Inter Macro
* FM2
* Elective

3rd Year Semester 1
* Actuarial Modelling 1
* Actuarial Modelling 2

This should give me the double major right? Except not sure it meets accreditation requirements...

Not sure if this is helpful or not but when I was doing the Actuarial major I remember the subject "Actuarial Statistics" being on the list of subjects required for exemption for one of the CTs.

Hey! It is possible to double major with Actuarial and Finance, but one thing you need to note is that you won't be able to do both Financial Mathematics 3 and Investments - you will only be able to enrol in Investments to satisfy the Finance major requirements.

If you do not do Honours, you will miss out on two Part 1 exemptions (CT6 and CT8), but this will occur even if you majored solely in Actuarial.

If you are planning to do an actuarial Honours year afterwards, it may be possible to attain CT 6 exemption, but it will not be possible to gain CT8 exemption nor full Part 2 accreditation (you will be barred from doing the last Part 2 subject due to not having done FM 3).

Anyway, the whole accreditation aspect is pretty confusing - we'll be holding a First Year Info Session to address all these issues in detail, and more, at uni on Tuesday. If you're interested, check out our event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/445341232326409/

We hope to see you there!

is anyone else behind at uni for readings? And do people tend to view the lecture at home once they've already sat through it 'live'. I feel sometimes the lecturer is going to fast so i already tend to view it again at home which makes the point of why we should go to the lectures?

I'm very behind in reading for Bus Law. And re-watching lectures is a must for AM where the pace is really fast. You're definitely not alone, recordings are there for a reason!

That sounds a little more comforting that i'm not the only one. Im trying to get chapters 1 and 2 out for bus law before they start introducing case studies this week - i heard much of bus law is like legal studies so :/ because havent done that.

Already have a Quant assignment too, ah boy haha

Any 2nd year BCOM students applying for internships all around? I'm gettin pretty nervous and everything about them, especially for the big 4. Apparently 1-2% of people get a vacation spot :O

Is this 1-2% of all UoM BCOM applicants to the Big 4? or all applicants in Melb in general? If it's the former, that's crazy..

total applicants including people who apply for melbourne internships from other unis/outside melbourne/overseas etc.
