Yeah, it was the subject I got most frustrated with during Biomed. Looking forward to your review

It's definitely going to be the lowest result on my transcript based on my assessment results so far - I scraped a H1 in BIOM30002 and my marks this semester have been notably lower. Part of it is out of frustration and part of it is sheer carelessness. Like vox nihili said, I think it's a subject with admirable intentions but it just misses the mark so badly. It's definitely okay if you look at the lectures alone, but the tutorials/assessment side of things needs work.

The degree structure is changing in 2017; that's why it's not on that page.

Since you started in 2016 (I assume), you will still be following the old course structure, where Business Finance was compulsory due to being a part of professional actuarial exemptions. From 2017 onward Principles of Finance essentially replaces Business Finance.

Hey guys,

Is it worth going to graduation in undergrad? (I heard it's $210 including gown hire?)

I can't even get a job yet so there's really not much to celebrate?
Do I miss out on anything if I don't go?

Thanks

Don't think it's that expensive.

Depends - do you want to go? Check with your parents and family members though - the day is as much for them as it is for you.

I found it pretty boring, tbh, but my parents and grandparents loved it.

So it seems that my maths assignment I handed in (hard copy into tutor's assignment box) has gone missing, before the tutor even had a chance to mark it. I'm not the only one in this situation (3 others in my class as well) and the tutor looked for weeks and can't seem to find it. Almost everyone else in the class had their's marked, as per usual. What should I do now?

Concur with mahler004 as usual

I think it's really important that you celebrate the end of your degree in one form or another. Sometimes at uni we lose sight of how special it is that we've had the experience of going to university and getting a degree, especially from a university of such a high calibre. There aren't a lot of people who get that opportunity, so you do deserve to congratulate yourself at the end of it.

On grad specifically though, it is largely fairly boring, and REB can be a particularly uncomfortable place in summer. My grad was on a 40+ degree day. REB with no cooling at all and they're asking you to wear gowns and a suit. Not the best experience.
Nonetheless though, it is still a fairly special moment walking up there and getting your degree and see your friends do the same. I guess it's the emotional context that makes it. If that's there for you, or your family, then go. If not, why bother?

Oh man that sucks. Can't believe people still do this in university.

Just relax you have done nothing wrong, wait and see what your tutor does because it was his/her responsibility to make sure all assignments were safely secured in that box. See what happens, if you are not happy with the tutor's decision, then contact the coordinator and also student services.

Are Physics for Biomed prac results adjusted depending on how well you go in the exam? I've heard this from older students in the course but I'm unsure if it's true.

Currently doing my SWOTVAC study while moving house and with no access to internet other than 3G for the next two weeks. The most painful SWOTVAC ever.

Happy studying everyone. :P

Thank you for the direct link. But the money isn't THAT important, considering...

You guys made me completely change my mind on this issue.

You're right mahler, this isn't just for me, this is for my family.
And your words resonated with me vox.
I've been so focused on the mantra "go to university then get a job", that I forgot that the opportunity and the university experience itself is something to treasure.

And who knows what will happen in the future, maybe this will be the only opportunity I'll ever get to go to a graduation.

Thank you guys  :)

For the record - part of the reason it's become so expensive is because you now need to hire the university's regalia - previously, you could buy your own on the cheap, but people kept on showing up in the incorrect regalia, so they must have decided to stop this.

I remember at my graduation, it seemed the spent more time fixing the regalia of those who showed up with their own.
