Oh damn, I thought I just messed up the exam!!
(I calculated that I got like 60% on the exam with my mark from the essay and prep doc marks lmaoo)

Makes a lot more sense now... Did they provide any exact figures?

I should've investigated this... But the marks came out so late in sem 2 and I was swamped by my other subjects and just accepted it  :-\

And honestly, I was satisfied with H2A but I was chasing that H1 (easy H1 subject from reviews? lmao)

I wrote a review on the subject this year (so granted it wouldn't have been there when you were deciding whether to take the subject) and I really need to go edit it. It's so interesting because at the moment I'm looking at the review going 'yeah I enjoyed it, it was great fun' but the more sinister side of me believes the marking scheme is so disproportionately unfair that the subject shouldn't be run - all stemming from the fact I put 2 weeks of sollllliiiidddd effort into assessment to only receive H2A.

There was a lot of misinformation that came to light with the results being revealed - especially the fact that my tutor had marked my essay as if it were an academic journal, yet the lecturer said it is not an academic exercise but rather a reflective (albeit requiring small research) one.

I'm not sure what good inspecting would have done though - my friend was told (by his tutor) that he specifically should not inspect it because his is likely to be marked down. Anyway morale of the story is I need to update my review to ensure people are aware of the marking. As an aside, is it too late to email to review it now....?

Edit: I should add, I'll be doing tax law 1, business finance and ifa2 reviews in the coming week for all you commerce students

Yeah they weren't going to change any marks simply because FBE wasn't going to approve it if there was a 30%+ H1 rate.. :/

I still ended up with a H1 so I guess I should be happy with that :P

Well I actually put in a shittttload of effort into the subject, and I was quite dismayed with my original score. I heard from a friend of mine who went in to check that scores may have gotten scaled, so I decided to ask myself and voila (they confirmed all scores got scaled down).

Yeah I emailed the head tutor too and he confirmed the marks have been scaled down.  :(
Apparently almost all students received H1s last year and the faculty wasn't happy about it. Seriously though, scaling the marks down by so much (at least 7) is ridiculous and unfair to those who put in so much effort. I honestly don't think there's any other subject in unimelb that gets scaled down by so much  :-\

On a side note, Business Finance in Semester 2, 2015 got scaled up by at least 5 marks if I'm not wrong, which was mainly because of the incredibly hard mid-sem.

Do you know what the average was for the midsem last sem?

So I enquired to get some private tutoring for GAMSAT Section 1 and got this response, after telling the guy about my abysmal Section 1 Score. He said this.......
I'm not sure whether I should be upset, because it's how I'm feeling..... Essentially it felt like he turned me down because of my low score. I'm really feeling down at the moment, even though I need to continue to studying and improve.

He certainly could have approached it a bit better, but I really wouldn't worry about it. If you end up in med, you're gonna have to deal with a lot worse than someone with a bad attitude unfortunately.

There are plenty of GAMSAT tutors around and plenty of good people who will hopefully be able to get that S1 score up for you. Obviously you feel pretty hopeless right now, and that's fair enough given scores only just came out today, but after you've given yourself some time to process, try reflecting on what might have happened to S1 and devising a strategy to try and get things up. One tip to start you off: start reading, particularly stuff you wouldn't normally read. Really easy thing to do, doesn't feel like work and it'll get your S1 score up pretty easily :)

Oh sweet it was about the same this time around so hopefully more scale ups, although the exam wasn't bad this time around.

The scale up occurred in Semester 2, 2015. RKTR posted about last semester which was Semester 1, 2016. So the scaling didn't occur when the average was 11.4/15 :( :(

Oh yeah you're right for some reason I just read it as last semester

tbh I think they're gonna scale us down in that case, as there was basically no MM questions and that was probably the hardest part of the course (well in my opinion anyway).

I'll put a disclaimer now that this is a real rant about GAMSAT.

SO I sat the GAMSAT in March and in September this year. After struggling with time and thinking I did horribly, I was pretty happy with my score as a starter when I first got it. IN September, I came out feeling a lot better about it in general. I actually finished sections 1 and 3 completely, and felt okay about section 2. What was my score this time round? 1. Less. Than. March.

It's so defeating when you've got a really decent GPA, and the only thing holding me back from my dreams of becoming a doctor is one bloody test. Furthermore, I don't even know what to do. My Science section 3 score was exactly the same both times. At the moment, I'm using my frustration and channeling clarity and preparation with it. I need to know where I went wrong but I sincerely don't know.

Did I do enough questions? Should I go to a company? I'm so flustered and its just so upsetting :(

i found out from my friend who did it in march that the percentile-score curves are actually different. same percentile in march actually gets a higher score so maybe you actually did better relative to others in the september gamsat. don't give up! september was my 1st try and i will have to do it again in march. i am only happy with my science section but could have gotten better as i kinda messed up my time management and rushed through 10 questions. my s1 and s2 are absolutely terrible..gonna try to improve them during the summer break.

Biomedder's, which would you say takes more time: BIOM30001 or BIOM30002? I'm trying to decide in which sem I should take 3 subjects, and would prefer to have a lighter workload in the sem with the harder core.

Also, has anyone done any one of the following majors: neuroscience, immunology or physiology. Could you provide a general overview of what you focus on in those majors, and how well subjects were taught and structured? I didn't realize how difficult it would be to pick a major haha but I've narrowed it down to three. Thanks!
