For two years I've studied for the gamsat and hoping to apply to an interstate uni for med or dent. now my parents tell me that even i make it in, they can't afford for me to go interstate. I'd always thought centrelink money would be enough, but apparently not. I'm really down right now. All my hard work down the drain!  I have a gamsat score of 73, but gpa of 6.29, and was hoping to apply to  UQ and University of Sydney. Now all hope is lost, and it's out of my control  :'( :'(
sydney will probably too expensive but you might be able to eek out a meagre existence in brisbane if you get centrelink. look at getting a part time job while you study or if thats too difficult maybe apply and take a deffered offer and work full time for a year to save up then use that money once you move there. if you can go to somewhere like UQ and get a job as a university tutor you could definitely make enough to survive if you teach a few tutes a week and get centrelink

Did anyone else who sat the Principles of Finance exam this morning find it extremely difficult? Or just me

Yeah, I personally found it pretty challenging also, despite having done a fair amount of revision beforehand. The content was pretty consistent with the lecture content though, so you gotta hand it to the finance dept. for that!

I can't believe they only picked up on the mistake in Q5 with like 10 minutes to go. Feel bad for the people who left early...

Hang on sorry - I didn't take Principles of Finance, but was there a mistake in the exam? How did they handle it?

I had the Investments exam yesterday and I could've sworn there was a mistake in the paper, and other people thought so too. But nothing happened so was just curious.

It seemed like someone had reported that there was information missing in the question (I think it was the share price?), and they made an announcement over the PA system around 10-15 minutes before the exam ended so people could complete the question.

lol I think there a few mistakes as well in mine as well but that's probably me not studying enough haha

No idea how they found out but you had to work out the market value of equity, but they didn't give you the share price... and yeah it was only reported with 10 minutes to go or so and people had already left... Unsure how they would have answered the question without that info

Ahhh okay, I see. Different situation. Ours was a multiple choice where I (believe) there was no correct answer.

Yeah I could definitely see some spelling and grammar errors, but the one about the duration of the portfolio in multi choice.

Something like the person invested $135mill in Bond A and $155mill in Bond B and what was the duration. I think the right answer would just be a weighted average of the investment but there was none (one answer was close but had $135 in the numerator for both). Anyway I just calculated what each was and picked the closest one to what I thought it should be haha

Does anyone know if the math subjects marks (in particular Calculus 1) are moderated? Or is the mark we get at the end our own mark with no moderation at all??

Depends on the difficulty of the exam and how well the cohorts do, if exam this year is considerably harder than previous years and the entire cohort did much worse, there should be some scale-up for all students (for example probability last year). That being said, if the difficulty is similar, probably shouldn't bet on scaling too much.

I suppose this is a good time to mention that I got the special consideration I mentioned earlier in the thread approved for all my exams so that's pretty good news.

If you've had the opportunity to sit a subject exam twice, how similar are the special/supp exams to the normal ones? Should I expect some questions to be repeated, none, or most? I'm strongly considering redoing Paper B for MCB at the moment. Thanks.
