Good luck to all first year students with timetabling tomorrow. I'll give a few pieces of advice

-Time slots go extremely quickly so make sure that you are on the site at 10:00. You won't believe how quick these times go. I would recommend having a few mock timetables as backup in case things don't work the way you want them to (but more places will be available)
-The timetable page does load quite slowly so bear with it
-You select the timetable one subject at a time.
-Depending on demand, more time slots will open up in the future
-There are more places available on the 20th (in already timetabled slots). If you don't get the time slot you want, there is a second chance, as more places (10%) are opened up on the 20th

I know right XD
who wants to have a 3/4 pm lecture on Friday anyways, haha

I'm slightly peeved now because my friend in the B.Com course has a timetable full of 2-4 hour days all starting at 9 am and no class on Mondays. Why is the Faculty of Science like this? :(

Because they'll be ending up doing internships during the holidays and having no holidays + plenty of career  building extracurriculars which takes up a lot of time. To put it in context, I haven't had a proper holiday since year 12 and I'm going into my 3rd year of uni

That was presumptuous of me to assume that, my bad! Thanks for the information

Wow really - I was able to complete mine in a record time of 2 minutes! I only have 3 classes on campus this semester though so that's probably why.

 Good luck!

Also I am a bit annoyed because I have a lecture on a Tuesday which I cannot change because there is only one but all my other lectures, tutorials & workshops have fitted in on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. I live like 1 hour away from the city so is it worth going in for that one lecture or should I just watch it online??

I would recommend going for the first few weeks (lecture capture is being upgraded, sometimes there are issues with the theatre or lecturer) and also checking to make sure the lecture capture is working correctly. Nothing's worse than going to watch a lecture and realising that it hasn't recorded correctly. After that, if it were me I would just stay at home and watch.

Yeah, my chrome constantly gives me an error message so I was forced to refresh the page many times...

Well that sucks... I would just probably watch the lecture online at home, saves time.

Thanks for the advice. By checking that the lecture capture is working correctly do you mean asking the lecturer? Or will the lecturer get mad at me for not wanting to come to the lectures?

With chemistry and physics pracs, they don't run every week. When do we find out which weeks they and which weeks we have a gap? Thanks

A timetable will be released either the week before the start of semester or during the first week classes.

As far as I'm aware, this means that classes are full. However, the university does reserve 10% of places for first year subjects, meaning that you should be able to access these at a later time if you are quick enough. If someone is more knowledgable in this area, please correct my assumption!
