Hi guys, when you make notes for your subjects, do you summarise the textbook or just annotate the lecture slides? Sorry if this sounds like such a jaffy question...thanks ;D
In general, only the lecture slides and what the lecturer says is what is examined. Depending on the subject this can include tutes and pracs. The textbook is normally just used to reinforce a concept if you do not understand it. Summarising the textbook is a waste of time in my opinion. Read it, use it to add to your notes but don't summarise it. Most of the people i know dont even bother reading the textbook due to information overload lol. Hope this helps

To people that did ECON10004, can I use the American version of "Principles of Microeconomics" by Mankiw? The Australian version is really expensive.
In the reviews one user said both the American and the Australian versions are exactly the same but I just want to confirm if possible.

yes i dont think its worth buying the textbook the australian version is just full of australian examples as opposed to the american ones given in the text but the content in both is more or less the same. reading the textbook is great for further understanding anyway. pink and blue sheets are more important to your overall study. gareth's lecture slides are pretty comprehensive and i found i didn't have to write a whole lot down except for one or two things

So I'm trying really hard to avoid buying the textbooks... but what happens if you have reading to do and you don't even have a pdf of the book? (This is Chemistry for Biomed that I'm talking about :P) Should I just suck it up and go buy the book?

Also, ChemCAL modules. Should I be taking notes? And why are there so many questions?! D:

The books have changed this year so no one's really going to be able to give you a solid opinion. Last year, the books were a waste.

Great, this means I now have the textbooks for all my subjects and don't have to spend any money on textbooks  ;D

The pre-reading pages on the LMS and on the first lecture slide for BIOL10002 are different despite the same book (and same edition)... which one do I follow? :S

I hope everyone received spectacular crap yesterday on the South Lawn! I neglected my leeching duties.

I found ChemCAL really amazing, and took notes because it explained concepts to me better than most other resources. If you're finding it straight-forward though, there's likely no need. The pre-lab ChemCALs are strongly linked to the laboratory sessions though, so taking notes there may be valuable.

You are honestly my inspiration.

No, you are, Travis, I want Carlo's life so it would be Ballerina and Travis Tutoring and I would be the one with the fake moustache :'(

HAHAHAHAHAHA oh this is beautiful :')

If I ever find one again, I'll buy it so that you can have a fake moustache! (in fact, Carlo's was free)

¿Por qué no los dos?

Well, that's what I ended up doing. =_=

I have a feeling I'm doing this all wrong, because I feel as if I'm behind before the first lecture has even begun... It's either that I'm being far too meticulous or that the workload at university is insane (or perhaps both).

Hi,

I really want to go to Melbourne University and do a Bachelor of Arts but I'm not really sure what ATAR I'm capable of as I haven't fully applied myself in VCE as of yet. It says the clearly-in is 92.35 and the minimum is 85 ... Does that mean anyone who got above a 92.35 was offered a spot, and anyone below that who had it listed as their preference and was between 85 were randomly selected or something? How does this work?

I'm going to kick into first gear on Sunday and actually do some work for SACS etc. because I've let a few go and haven't done that well in them due to being lazy. If I were to get a 90 ATAR, how would it work?

Last-minute additions are sadly quite common across the board. One of my subjects doesn't have -any information- up yet, let alone lecture slides :')
