Hey guys,
with the UROP application, whats an example of someone you would use as an academic referee? It's not like teacher-student relationships at uni are particularly strong... I couldn't even tell you the name of my current lecturers if my life depended on it lol

Does anyone know what that careers thing was a couple days ago? It was the one in the hall with the massive line

Was it just an expo with some booths? It seemed interesting but I figured I would be there in the line for the better part of 2 hours.

EDIT: Or was it today? yesterday? I don't keep track of time :c

Yeah, I went last semester - found it a bit of a waste of time, there aren't many people advertising jobs I'd like to do (mostly targeted at commerce/engineering looking at the list from this year.) Plus, the line was kind of ridiculous, yeah.

I used a high school teacher, although I don't think they allow this any more. Do you have any tutors or lab demonstrators? That's what most of my friends used.

staring to write urop application
"2. Tell us a bit about yourself,"
nooooooo i hate this. what am i meant to write?! "hi i am melissa, i like cows and elephants and sometimes i accidentally walk into glass doors"
Looking over mine - I just did bit on why I wanted to do the program, what I was interested in (scientific and otherwise,) why I'd be a good lab member and a bit about science-related extracurricular stuff I've done over the years. Just treat it like the question in a job application.

(I probably wouldn't mention grades here - let them speak for themselves.)

Is the new Architecture Building actually open? I saw they're holding some open day events in there but I hadn't heard of it being officially open yet (Too bad it looks friggin awful).

I heard it's not officially opening for a month or so. They're opening it up for the genera public on open day though if you want to check it out? ;)

i have the tms coordinator on mine;; you'd be surprised how much coordinators/lecturers, especially with smallish cohorts actually know about the students.

Hey guys, right now I have a HORRIBLE tutor who comes in super unprepared and takes ages to explain something but makes absolutely no sense.
I was wondering if its possible to change tutes on the basis of having a bad tutor? And when I say bad, i mean shockingly bad   :'(
This is for international politics btw  :P

Well class registration just finished last week IIRC, but you could:
a) Look at the timetable of the subject on the SIS and just turn up to any of the listed tutes
b) Contact the coordinator and get permission to swap to another tute
c) Contact the coordinator and inform him/her that the tutor is indeed useless and that this needs to be addressed

Is attendance marked and/or a hurdle requirement for the subject? If so, (a) would not be possible. And I'd probably recommend doing (c) whether you swap or not.

The coordinator will want to know if the tutor is unprepared because they are responsible for the tutors.  Let them know how you feel for sure.
