Aww yay go scribble! The only emails that I get from my favourite lecturers regarding research proposals say "go away stop stalking me".

Haha I checked with him, it was towards me. He just thought I was third year cause I was taking proteins.
Sad I can't do honours next year but now I'm likely going to be doing the biomed research project with him this summer. :) he was actually the supervisor I wanted too!
Dude that is so cool to have been sought out!!! Way to go! You are one smart cookie, I hope you kill it in Biomed research project next year :-) Can I ask who it is??

Hey guys, just a couple of minor questions:
1. How do you/people in general take notes? Laptop? By hand? (Particularly interested in those who take Science/Biomed, but any insight would be awesome).
2. If you're doing practicals (e.g. for Chemistry/Biology subjects) do you need to wear closed toed shoes in the lab?
Thanks :)

1. Last year I printed off the slides and would handwrite over them in the lecture before typing them into summary notes, this year I transitioned to annotating the slides using Nitro Pro. Great program, it lets you edit the slides and add in/delete pages. Would then type summary notes if I needed to.
2. Definitely.

1. I annotate the powerpoints given on my iPad using Notability and a stylus. I do science.

2. You need to wear closed shoes and a lab coat for every Prac I've dobe at uni. Most will tell you to weat long pants (you should do this anyway,) and googles.

I did the same thing as Shenz0r this year because it's difficult typing all the symbols and stuff for Chemistry, Physics and Maths. I also intend to type up my notes next year which should hopefully be more easy given my subjects are mainly Biology-oriented.

1. By hand! If there are slides available I'll print them and write on them. For subjects where there's a lot of material that isn't on the slides, I'll print them single-sided, 2 per page and use one side for my notes and one side for the lecturer's slides.
2. Since I'm doing maths/computer science subjects, my practicals don't require closed footwear ;-) </halpful>

omfg i cant tell if this is aimed at me... my names not michelle...
Oh wow, that's fantastic! I've spent the last semester on-and-off looking for Masters supervisors and never got any response back that enthusiastic, let alone had a lecturer contact me out of the blue!

Yes, closed-toe shoes are definitely required.
Having smashed a large vial of iodine solution just next to my foot in Chem 2 last year, I can say I see the practicality of wearing shoes without holes in them.

No not at all! I just seem to be decent at cramming large slabs of information and forgetting it the next day.
It was Danny hatters who emailed me, but if I do the research project I think my supervisor will be someone else who works in his lab.
He does work on neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer's, motor neuron and huntintons. :)
:( sad I can't do the honours project he offered though. It sounded really cool, involving biosensors that his lab produced.

You got an email from a lecturer who got your name wrong?
Yeah, such an awkward situation. Either the email was going to be for me and he got my name wrong. Or he emailed the wrong person which is even more awkward.

Oh wow, that's fantastic! I've spent the last semester on-and-off looking for Masters supervisors and never got any response back that enthusiastic, let alone had a lecturer contact me out of the blue!
I imagine it's a lot different in maths though! I feel like the math lecturers seem to be a little more distant from their students.

What stylus do you use? I take notes on an iPad for math and engineering, but it's always felt a bit awkward doing so for biochem. Would like to reduce how much printing I always end up doing though

They'll probably be a similar project around next year, otherwise you'll at least know what the lab is right.

One of Danny's RAs/students will supervise you in the lab. Danny will mark the report/talk (and Leon.)

One of these. The Mac store on Elizabeth St sells them for about $40.

It's a Next Byte store - no Apple Store in the CBD unfortunately.
