dropped it yet? I'm doing the same subject this sem, I've done tax law too and they're extremely similar format wise (same class, similar assessment format) and content wise (lots of legislation, case law, writing and arguing)

H1 is always "achievable" but I put the most amount of effort (which isn't much as I'm a huge slacker) into Tax Law and it was my lowest grade that semester, being similar subjects I don't really think Corp Law is exactly the best candidate for an easy H1

I dropped it
but then I saw on ask.unimelb somewhere that when the census date is on a weekend we need to have dropped it before the last business day
which isn't what Stop 1 told me on Thursday
not sure if I have a withdrawn on my transcript now :/ but the subject isn't on my fees thing or statement of results

Worth following up with them. If you can prove that Stop 1 gave you that advice, then surely you'd be ok?

it was over the phone but I know the time and who I spoke to
Their calls are recorded right? I think it says they "may be recorded" at the start of the call, which usually means yes... (I hope)

Does anyone have any tips on early exam prep? Where do we get extra resources or practice questions/exams from? I'm really confused with how to go about it!

Continue revising your notes. Continually go back through lecture notes/tutorial content/other valid resources and make sure that you have included all that information in your notes. Practice exams are subject dependent, for instance chemistry no longer has past exams available (across the entire department) so the best you will get is a mock exam (which is what most subjects do).

Extra resources and questions again are subject dependent. Depending on the subject, there may be a range of textbooks in the library that have extra questions and resources.

You can start to come up with your own style questions (flashcards are great). It will get you thinking about how you might be tested on the content.

Not sure where to post this, but would it be incorrect to use a line graph to graph a data set with irregular time intervals? Would it be more appropriate to use a column bar graph?

It depends on what type of data you have. If it is continuous and numerical then use a line graph (not sure what this is exactly, but I'm just assuming a line like y=x). If you mean a time series graph, however, then you can use this and connect the dots. The irregular time intervals won't matter with this since the proportionality will be made clear on the x-axis (time). A column bar graph might be suitable if it's categorical and discrete data, but it honestly depends what kind of trend or pattern you want to show. Time series graphs are suited to showing trends over time, or if you just want to say 'this year was the highest, this was the lowest' without the person reading your data looking into it too much, then a bar graph might be suitable.

Hey all, feeling a bit lost right now and have a few questions:

-If I were to add a major to my BCom (from actuarial to actuarial + finance, to keep options open and maximize employment opportunities) would I just need to submit an enrollment variation or would I have to book a Stop 1 appointment to have the change approved and on my study plan? (I've checked all dates and prerequisites for what I want to do).

-Is there any way to get around prerequisites? I really want to do Algorithmic Trading /FNCE30010, but the prerequisites list one of COMP10002 or COMP10001. I'm currently enrolled in COMP20005/eng comp, which has the rule where you're only allowed to pick one of that one or COMP10002, and you're not allowed to do COMP10001 after completing COMP20005. However, I would have thought if you can't do COMP10001 after passing eng comp, this means eng comp would more than cover the requirements of COMP10001, thus giving me the required prerequisite knowledge. I've inquired to Stop 1 about this, but wondering if anyone's actually been in this situation before?

All answers appreciated, even if you only have the answer to one... Thanks :)

As for your first question, submit an enrollment variation form. Going to Stop 1, they will just ask you to do the same thing but perhaps guide you through completing it. With regards to your second question, I think it should be possible, but this is something they'd have to amend for you.

Absolutely! Easiest way is to contact the subject coordinator for Algorithmic Trading and explain how you've satisfied the equivalent of the prerequisites. Once you obtain some form of written approval from the subject coordinator (an email is fine) you can attach it to your enrolment variation request (which you'll need to make since without the official prerequisites you can't actually add the subject on to your study plan by yourself).

does anyone know if there are limits to the amount of advanced standing you can get? I'm hoping to transfer to the BA with the same major (geography) but I want to add another major or minor hence the change

Would I be able to transfer basically everything I have done so far over to the new degree?

Anyone else dying from COMP10001?
Spent so much time on this subject that I'm falling behind for other subjects and yet I still failed the mid semester test

Just a PSA for y'all that busses replace trams on the route 19 on Monday from Queen Vic Market to Brunswick Tram Depot. :)

Thought this'd be important given that most route 19s I'm on are packed with you UniMelb peeps 😂

For those of you who have gone on exchange in countries where there are different semester times (ie. Germany), how have you combatted this issue? I was planning on undertaking exchange in semester 2 of 2019, but have found out that uni would begin mid October and run through to the end of March. Would this mean that I'd miss out on semester 1 of 2020, and by implication, have to extend my bachelor degree?

I'd appreciate any kind of feedback :)

The uni has a rule thats something along the lines of "you cant miss more than the first 2 weeks of semester due to studying abroad" if i recall correctly from my own study abroad experience that ran over time. if you are looking at an exchange that uom has listed as an exchange partner university, then uom itself will be able to tell you what the deal is with that particular place, so just ask them. if you plan your degree accordingly whereby the semester you will miss the start of is loaded up with the subjects that would most accomodatively allow you to miss a class or two early on then it should be fine. I know when i studied in America I missed the first two weeks of uni sem 2 in melb and it was fine, but on paper missing the third week would've prohibited me from the study abroad program even though I think it would've slipped through the cracks anyway (none of my classes that sem had attenddance anyway so i didnt end up going to a class until like week 4 LOL). You also have to look at the dates of your last assessments overseas and their format. I know people who studied abroad for winter/northern hemisphere summer school and even though the official dates of the course would've made them miss 3 and a half weeks of semester 2, their assignments were online submission and their last day of class was 3 weeks before the due date so they made it back in time to start semester 2 on time. just talk to the uni about it and see whats up
