You don't need to bring a laptop to the computer labs during workshop, but you will need to have one at home so you can do your worksheets and projects as it is impossible to be complete them in the workshops

Okey dokey. Thanks!

Should have no trouble, I found intermediate micro slightly harder. It's just that most people do it the other way around, so you might have less friends or people you already know to discuss assignments and past exam questions with.

If there is lecture 2 on Monday, and lecture 1 on Wednesday, does it really matter? (these two slots are the only option for some reason)

Also, i have two subjects, where both of them only have one lecture streams, and they happen to clash -.- So does class registration allow me to register into same time slot for 2 different subjects?

Nah, I wouldn't worry about that. It's probably some glitch in the timetabling system, it's happened before for me. Dw, they won't teach the second part of a particular topic before the first part.

About the clash, timetabling will allow you to register for both classes, but a warning message will come up afterwards, which you can just ignore. Since there's only one stream for both of them, in reality, you'll have to choose which one to go for and which one to watch on Lecturecapture. The uni's 'official' suggestion is to go for 50% of each class, but it's really up to you. Unless, of course, if lecture attendance is compulsory then you've gotta prioritise one over the other.

Hope that helps!

Does anyone know the date for when the remaining 20% of spots in tutes and stuff are open for registration? Because afaik only 80% of level 1 subject openings are initially released. Unfortunately all of the classes I wanted are full because I left registration until late  :-\

If all the classes i.e. tutes are full, they'll release maybe one or two of the remaining tutes (they don't usually release ALL of the remaining times). If you're first year, then googling 'unimelb class registration' should show exactly when the remaining 20% are released. If the tutes are NOT full and no additional tote times are required, the tutors won't often release any more tutes.

Wow...the uni administration system is unable to pick up errors. I applied for a special exam for one of my subjects almost a month ago. Unfortunately I applied under an incorrect subject code (an advanced form of the subject-you can't do both subjects at the same time, not sure how that is possible since I'm not enrolled in that subject), although the HPR form from my doctor listed the correct subject code. Nonetheless, I got a special exam application approved under the incorrect subject code. I only realised all this on Monday when special exam timetables got released and so it for one subject instead of two (another subject). So the system seemed to pick up the error then, but didn't offer me a special exam for the other subject. Went to stop 1 on Tuesday, student equity said they would speak to the faculty and get the issue resolved within 48 hours. I still haven't received a special exam timetable for that subject. I emailed the coordinator ut she's away until Tuesday (which is when the exam is scheduled), and got redirected to another email. I'm now most likely unnecessarily studied for an exam which I'm not going to do when I was going through cancer diagnosis, stuck with a shit grade (scraped a pass since I sat the exam and almost full-marked all the other components, although the exam was worth 70%) and am stressed about getting this issue resolved (I scheduled surgeries after the exam period).

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Idk if this helps but spec con this sem has been a bit weird, mine was stuffed up as well and took a while to resolve

You can actually apply for spec con again after the special exam period, after which you might be awarded other special assessment or a late withdrawal so not all hope is lost.

Tell Stop 1 again. I know that's so frustrating but sometimes you have to push your faculty for something to happen. Your subject coordinator isn't the only one that can make decisions, especially if they're away (same happened to me, the head of the faculty was consulted instead or something)

Tell SEDS to make phone calls to the faculty, contact the the relevant people etc. It can be done (as was in my case) and it will likely be responded to faster

All the best <3

For those that have graduated already, could someone breakdown what actually happens on the day? Does one firstly get the graduation regalia, then take the usual photos outside with family/friends, then go back inside for the ceremony?

Also, how likely are we to be able to secure extra tickets for the ceremony?

Yes, pretty much.

Securing extra tickets is not a problem.

Hey guys,

First of all I was wondering if there is a way to get access to the previous year's lectures for a subject you are doing? I wanted to try and get a bit of a head start before the semester begins.

I'm also trying to decide between doing Topics in Animal Health and Thinking Scientifically. I'm doing Animal Health and Disease so my main area of interest is animals, but I've heard that Thinking Scientifically is easier. Has anyone done Topics in Animal Health, and if so, how difficult was it?

I appreciate the help, thanks!

To anyone who has taken MECM10006 (Intro to media writing) and BLAW10002 (Media law), do lecturers take attendance in the lecture?
There is only one lecture time for both subjects this semester, one is an 8am start and the other starts at 9am. It takes me almost an hour to get to uni, so I was wondering if I’m good with just watching the lecture recordings (if they are recorded, that is)?

Thanks in advance guys!

Watching lecture recordings should be fine, I haven't heard of any lecturer marking lecture attendance (yet).

Has the 2018 S2 subject guide (syllabus, NOT the online handbook) for COMP10001 Foundations of Computing and/or ECON20005 Competition and Strategy come out yet? I feel that it's quite odd with nothing in LMS for these two subjects (and probably plenty others) with less than two days until 2018 S2 officially starts - usually subject guides are released around a week prior from past experience...
