Tried to submit a form through the student portal and was kindly informed that I'm three and a half months too young to be a student. All the previous things I've filled out have passed through the system just fine, but I lied about my age and will ring 13 MELB tomorrow. Is it actually illegal for someone under the age of 16 to be a student, or is it just uni protocol? (Please tell me it's the latter :S ).

I'm 16 in April :E
I don't think I'm any sort of prodigy, not even close, but I did every year of secondary school, and I'm capable of being almost entirely self-sufficient so I never really realise I'm always going to face problems when applying for things like this until it happens.

In Uni, are assignments expected to be typed or hand-written?

@choong: Thanks, it was quite a big challenge to pull an A+ average for SACs, but it certainly expanded my vocabulary :B
Also I'm going to ask the same question as Fantasia (though I'm guessing it's a combination of both and depends on the task and faculty).

Depends on the subject and assignment. If it's a research essay for example then it'll probably need to be typed and uploaded. If it's a math assignment then you'll probably hand write it unless you want to type and print it off.

Well considering part of writing a research essay is conforming to the appropriate style it would need to be typed. Otherwise it won't properly conform.

It's probably a stupid Australian university protocol.

Doesn't make much sense though. I've read several stories where 14- and 15-year-olds have been accepted into Oxbridge and Ivy League institutions (such as this one). Maybe you should kindly remind them of that. ;)
