The class is probably full at the moment. Try clicking show full classes, and see whether it is, and how many people are on a waitlist.
I've tried that but it still doesn't show up, which contradicts the official uni melb timetable.  :-\ It does say '*22/2/13 More Workshops will be made available in the next few days. Please check back frequently.*, but it probably would have been added by now if it was going to be.

What is LMS and why isn't one of my subjects (principles of business law) registered on it?

That subject is the tute, which is done on the cd/online I'm pretty sure. It was mentioned that you do it in your own time so yeah thats why its not registered on the timetable cos you can pretty much do that 1 hour prac/tute whatever it is in your own time

That should be posted on the LMS, there's a brief overview on the subject handbook though.

What is LMS and why isn't one of my subjects (principles of business law) registered on it?

The LMS is where you go to access lecture/tutorial/practical notes/ timetables e.g. for pracs, access any sort of online feedback tests that the department may use to count towards your overall mark, discussion boards for subjects, solutions to worksheets/ textbooks, where you submit assignments.

As you can see, it is important that you check the LMS regularly.

Anyone bought textbooks yet?
Textbooks- no. If you were to buy anything now it should be tutorial/ practical notes that cannot be found on the LMS (or if you just would like a hard copy). Most textbooks are there to supplement your learning and are not examinable. My advice would be to borrow the books at the library in the early weeks and see if you need it, make sure to buy second hand copies as well (i.e. not from the uni bookshop).

2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

Check http://www.coop.com.au/bookshop/search and type in your subject code.

Prac notes for bio are only from the book shop, however chemistry tute notes can be found online on the LMS. If you want a hard copy of the chem notes you can buy them at the bookstore.

If your booklist doesn't show up for one of your subjects, wait until they make an announcement on the LMS (also can I stress that you don't buy textbooks until you wait and see what it's like without them after the first week)

Sorry, dumb question here, but I thought that most of your studying is done from your textbooks, and that lectures basically explain the info in the textbooks? Or am I wrong?

Most of the content is given in lectures. In many subjects textbooks are unnecessary. But seriously, don't stress about these things. The way it works will be explained in the first lecture of each subject.

Usually textbooks are "prescribed" but they have sooo much content in them that most lecturers will just say learning from the lecture notes will suffice for the exam :) From what I've experienced in my subjects so far, there's never really been a push to buy textbooks so you needn't rush to get them unless your lecturer says you should :) That's what I've found different in Uni - although textbooks are there, we don't study from them exclusively as there's not as much direction (I guess you could say it's because we don't have "study designs" any more to guide our study so we rely on lecture slides instead :P)
